You will not be sorry if you go with the Muzzy!! Been shooting one for about 7 years now, on 3 different bows.

This is funny! Kinda like asking in the off-season forum, Should I buy a Ford, Dodge or Chevy?

Not saying it's a bad question, but all you're really gonna get here is probably what someone currently has on their bow.

I'm not discounting anyone's answers, because maybe I'm wrong about this, but at least Justin told you he's only had experience with the one rest he mentioned. Matt probably HAS played with all three rests you wanted info on, but I bet there's a lot of people JUST naming the rest they use out of "brand loyalty"...

Again, maybe I'm wrong. If so, what we need to know is... Why? Why is one particular model better than another? What were the idiosyncracies or quirks that you did/didn't appreciate about a particular model? Why did or didn't it fit you well?

Sorry, maybe I graded too many college composition papers from my incoming freshmen... But THAT'S what's going to make a valid response...

I haven't tried every brand of rest, but I have tried every style, and converted a few before the NAP drop a aways came out. I currently use a muzzy zero effect and a drop zone. The drop zone is about to get replaced with a simple prong rest.

Will they make your rest more accurate? Most likely not. Depending on the rest you use it may make it harder to shoot. Some of the drop a ways use a slight overdraw in order to clear the shelf when they drop. Like the muzzy and drop zone. Any time you move the pivot point of your arrow away from your grip it can make your bow less forgiving. Accuracy is a subjective thing though, it really depends on how good your form is. Truth be known you could shoot off the shelf if you used feathers and be accurate if you could shoot well enough.

What they will help with is fletching clearance. If you have skinny arrows and want to shoot large fletchings with a helical or lots of offset they work very well.

My honest opinion is if you are going to spend 100 bucks on a drop just because you heard it will make you shoot better save your money. It may make you shoot better for a week or so, because it could boost your confidence or something. Then again it could make you shoot worse because you changed your set up. Take it from someone that likes to tinker and change things, it DOES NOT help your shooting any. Consistancy is what makes a good archer.

Or better yet take the money you were going to spend on a drop a way and get better arrows or a few lessons. Those may actually help you shoot better.

It might sound as if I am anti drop a way, but I'm not really. I actually like my muzzy, and the drop zone is not bad either. Both are overdraw rests though. The trophy taker style rest are not. Hower when you consider the price of the muzzy and drop zone I would rather have a good prong rest like the higher end GFK's. If you want one to just play with go a head and get one if you can afford it and like to tinker. That is why I got them. I certainly didn't need to try all the rests I have over the course of 6 or 7 years.

I've had a Muzzy for 5 years. It is absolutely the greatest thing since sliced bread and all those naughty things you can think of. I have it on a Darton Maverick. Wouldn't change for anything.

That said, I understand that they have had more problems tuning and setting them up with all these parrallel limb bows. They've had to come up with new pieces to fit a lot of differently made bows. Before you absolutely decide that's it, I'd pick the brain of someone who has it or has installed a lot of them with success. The parallel limb design has given us a lot of neat things, but in the process has added some problems to work out. As they come up, Muzzy is correcting them. I'll always have one. If my current one fails I'll buy another.

Well I have a QAD right now that I just put onand bought it because of the total capture feature. I had a Trap Door and really liked it but it started to fail by slowing down considerably over the past 3 years by slowing down as far as how fast it drops out of the way. It just started to show wear on my feathers which tells me it was starting to slow down. Other than that I had no problems with it for the first 2 1/2 years. SoI switched to the QAD Ultra Rest. Id say the one thing I didnt like about the TD was the fact it wasnt captured on the rest while in cocked position. But that wasnt a major issue. Hope this helps.

Greg, your response was well thought out, gramatically correct, and you even pointed out some important peoples responses. Funny....I didn't see anything about your opinion on which one is good and why it is good......Even though you called us out to do just that.

I've had experience w/ the Muzzy, and we simply could not get it to work. Major tuning issues. I also don't like the Trophy Taker or similar styles as I don't want the prongs landing on the shelf of my beloved UltraTec. Yeah, I know you can put moleskin on there, but nah...not me. Another problem w/ the Trophy Taker is IMO it didn't fall fast enough. We still get vanes hitting the prongs. I still say straight up and straight down is the way to go. The one thing about the Muzzy rest I really like......It has a big "scoop" for the arrow. Not much worry of it not grabbing the arrow properly.

I also agree that installing a drop away will not instantly make you a better shooter. But, w/ the decreased drag comes improved speed, and there are most certainly no clearance issues if intalled properly and the rest is capable of getting out of the way in time. Ishot a "TM Hunter" style rest for years and finally just got tired of the prongs being filed down by the arrow sliding across it. All of a sudden you draw back and the arrow falls between the prongs. That, and the shrink wrap wears off quickly and the arrow makes plenty of noise dragging across the metal prongs. In all fairness, and to Greg's point, those are really the only ones I've messed with. A few friends of mine have WB's, and I have to admit, they are pretty nice especially for stalking. But I like my Drop Zone and have no intention of changing it anytime soon.
