i marked two areas in red that would be funnel areas that deer might use when coming out of the bottoms and into the fields to feed at night. i marked where i would my stands in yellow. Just my opinion.

The southwest most dot is the area I would scout first, then the rest in no particular order. What direction does the wind go in?

I personally like the chunk of woods in the bend of the river as wall as the small corridors highlighted by previos posts. Hard for me to say without putting feet on the ground an looking for sign though. Good luck.

P.S. if you'll fly me out there and let me hunt I'll put you on the best spot on the property;)

You just can't say, where would you hunt? It would depend on how you get into your stand, where are the deer at that time, time of day(AM or PM). I'd have several spots picked out for all scenerios, always doing the same old thing, trails, travel corridors, time, route in and out etc. None of it is big enough to hold them forever. During the rut I'd sit on those bottlenecs like flies on meat all day long. Early and late season I'd be on the heaviest used trails to and the food. Several good places. Glad to see Rick James zeroed in on the bottleneck at the top for deer crossing the road. That inside corner in the field to the east is good too. OF course what's planted where figures in also. I'd also have several spots along that big woods to the east, depends on trails and travel sign.

P.S. I just saw your South arrow. Forget everything I said about EAST, just replace East with right.[8D]

Here is how I have the property setup, any suggestion let me know. I am always open to new idea's. The boat idea was from a friend of mine and really has worked out well. I have hunted here for 21 years now, but I still have a lot to learn.

lol I'm in. The property I hunt has a nice wide creek running thru it. I focus on the inside and outside corners. Had alot of luck doing that.

You guys can draw all the pretty little dots you want on this place and they don't mean a thing until you walk the ground. Then you decide. When I walk through a place the first time I'm looking at sign and trees to use for my climber. I never have to walk it again. I just go where I saw it and hunt. Some times a little fine tuning is in order but usually a place like this that's so restrictive and open is a piece of cake to hunt. The downside of it is that it's usually a feast or famine. They're where you are or the other side of the farm. That's why your route and impact getting in and out is so critical. Deer in these tight confines are easily pushed to the next farm. It's best to inch in on them and not go for the gusto all at once unless you can get in totally undetected.

Dave I could not agree more, if your read any of my notesI used a John Boat to get to most of my stands. I have an eletric trolling motor and zipped down the river. I sneak right up in the tree undetected, it really has woked out.
The picture is just a fun activity, I have hunted here my whole life. The part about pushing deer would you send a note to my Dad and Uncle. I have said this the last 21 years to them. They just do not get it. Feast or Phanom statement is right on, you either have a pile of deer or none. All depeands on how they are moving. One thing I have learned is crossing the river is NOT an issue for them. Move back and forth more than I would have ever thought.

How do you doodle on pictures?

davidmil 05-05-2006 04:31 PM

RE: Where would you Hunt

Illinoisbow: To doodle you have to open the picture with some sort of photosoft ware and use the tools available in the software. I have a couple different ones I use. You can also just use "Paint" in your "Accessories". The more sophisticated the software, the more you can do, of course the more it cost too. I like Microsoft Digital Image Pro 9 that I have. THere are better and there are worse. Depends what you want to do. I have just begun to crack the surface of all the possibilities. The simple stuff they're doing here can be done with Paint and it free if you have Windows. Just right click the picture and select Open with and then Paint. The tools are on the left and bottom. Make a copy of a picture and alter the copy and not your original because with paint when you do it and save it... it's there.

RE: Where would you Hunt

Thanks a lot davidmil. I didn't realize it was that easy to just use paint. Thanks

RE: Where would you Hunt

Just remember to copy/paste and make a new copy of the picture in question before you start adding circles dots etc. You'll never beable to take them away and get back to the original. Make a copy and play with it. Then you can resize so it's small enought to Embed in your post if you don't want to have to put it on a hosting sight like Photobucket. Enjoy. Just make some copies and play to improve your drawing skills etc. The top of the line software really lets you go wild and you can recover from errors you may have made if you save it in PNG format. Then make a copy of the PNG and save it as JPEG which this forum supports. It doesn't support PNG. You can't recover from JPEG errors usually without great difficulty and great software that allows erasing, blending etc.
