I will admit to one time ticking off my a-hole neighbor by putting one just like it on the back side of my fence looking at them. Funny it was gone in a day or two but I never reported the theft to the police.
Most hunters like a rack no matter what. big small, whatever. If you have the chance to get a rack, I would think most guys would want it. I don't understand why you said what you said in your post. It made no sense to me.

Ah, after 5 months they should be nice and tender! LOL, yeah, I'm just joking. Working in law enforcement where I do, I respond to a lot of car-deer accidents and I save every set of antlers I can. I just think they are cool to look at as well. Plus, even though you didn't shoot it, there is still a story that goes along with it. I stopped a car for speeding one day, just about into my town and as I'm approaching it I notice a station wagon coming towards me from the opposite direction. No big deal, but you always need to know where the traffic is so you don't get dead on the side of the road. So anyway, I am approaching the car I stopped and I hear a loud crashing noise. I look up and here comes a deer flying through the air like a helicopter blade right at the car I just stopped. It hits the front quarter panel of the car I stopped, flys up over the car right at me. I had to run back to the Troop car to keep from being hit by this deer. It lands dead right in between me and the car I stopped. The deer ran out in front of the station wagon approaching me from the opposite direction and he hit it. Fortunately the car I had originally stopped didn't have any damage and lucky for them no ticket. The deer turned out to be a really small three point I had seen on and off all Summer. You can bet that I kept that rack. It is about as tiny as it gets but I will never forget how I got that 'rack'.
Just curious, have you ever had to pick up the pieces of a rack that broke apart from the impact? A buddy of mine was almost home from an up North deer hunt where he shot the best deer of his life, a big 9 pointer. After dropping off one of their party, they were on their way to my buddies home and the guy driving tried to pull out into traffic when he should have waited. He pulled out too fast and my buddies deer came off the car and the rack smashed into a thousand pieces. They couldn't find enough to put it back together again and they didn't take any pictures of the deer before hand! Wow! thats got to suck.[:-]

Simple, after years of shooting deers and cutting off the racks, I asked myself what the heck am I doing with this crap. I have enough crap lieing around without any more antlers. I trashed all of them except for two, my rattling set and a weird looking 13 point. I really don't know why I'm hanging on to the weird rack. Just lazy I guess.

For the bit about the fence, I mean a rack exactly like the one .308 has smell and all. These folks deserved everything they got and more.

I'm looking for something like that for a Euro mount on the gable of my hunting cabin. I won't expose one of my own kills to the elements like that but would love to find a nice one after the season to use for that purpose.

Where is your hunting cabin? You better check the laws because in Alaska you have to have an old moose rack on every out building including the privy
