RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
I don't know if anybody else feels this way or not, but I know that a few of my hunting buddies and a few guys I work with feel like this too, but Truthfully, I honestly have never really had a desire to bowhunt in Africa. And believe me, I LOVE bowhunting. I have watched so many shows and videos of different hunts for different african animals and it has just never really intrigued me. Like I said, I have buddies and know a few other guys who feel the same way because we have talked about it before. One guy gave the scenerio once about what you would do if you won an african hunt. My answer was that I would sell it for as much as I could and then use that money for some great hunting trips here.An elk hunt or two, with an Alberta monster hunt, a canadian bear hunt etc. I would get alot more enjoyment out of that. I don't know why but the prospect of sitting in a little mudhut over a waterhole all day just doesn't thrill me. Even though I will sit in a stand or on the ground all day here, I just never thought it looked that enjoyable. That is just the way that I feel about it.

RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
If I could be in Africa with 70f temps then I am all in, I would bow hunt everything I could. For some reason I have always wished to take a hippo with a bow. |
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
I would like to hunt there, although its probably #4 on my list of countries to hunt!
|
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
HECK No! to much good hunting on this side of the big pond. Rich
|
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
Yes I would like to hunt over there. It's not highest or the most likely thingon my list butAfricahasa lot of cool critters I wouldn't mind getting after. Probably the single most thing I'd liketo try once is for Cape Buffalo, althoughI would be carrying a very large gun, not a bow.
|
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
Africa would be great! My only problem w/ spending money on an African hunt is that you can't take any meat back home.
|
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
Bowhunt, absolutely.
I have no desire to hunt big game anywhere with a rifle as long asI can draw a legal bow. |
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
no way!
|
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
Could go in 07 with my brother on his 5th trip if I could come up with some cash and time. He and some of his friends have taken many game, small and the largestwith bow and gun. According to him your treated like a king.
Jim Zumbo in Outdoor Life just wrote a piece on hunting Africa to help feed the poor there, they have many near starving people. That would be my kind of hunt. |
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
no desire to hunt animals that i don't eat (just the way i was raised). would still be nice to see the animals in the wild. i just can't justify the cost to myself either. i could hunt a lot of whitetails for that kind of cash.
|
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
I would like to hunt with both a rifle and a bow. With elephant even Chuck Adams admits is just too big and tough for the best modern day archery equipment.
|
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
No desire to hunt anything in Africa. I'd rather hunt whitetails, elk, and bear in the USA and Canada. And for me it's BOW ONLY. I've done the rifle thing and it just leaves me with an empty feeling. No sense of accomplishment with the gun for me.
|
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
You don't give enough choices. It's either bow hunt in Africa or rifle hunt???? What's up with tha? Higher on my list than either of those is an elk hunt in the good old USA. Now you're talking.:):):)
|
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
Absolutely, I would go again. It is a great experience and the variety of game seen is simply amazing. There is always something going on at the water hole. Much more exciting than watching a squirrel for 2 hours while hunting whitetail. I have hunted the midwest, the west, the south, Alaska, and Africa takes the cake hands down for me.
|
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
For some reason I've never had any desire to hunt Africa. Would like to hunt Canada. Probably never get a chance for one of thoseMexican mulies. Always been fascinated with US history, geography & wildlife. We have so many critters to hunt I see no reason to go elsewhere.
The folks that do Africa sure seem to like it though. Good for them. I've always been of the opinion that guys drawn to Africa like plentiful game and short hunts. Not everyone, just a general opinion. I really preferchallenging hunts. |

|
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
No desire. Don't know if it's climate or the game. I guess the game are too exotic for me, makes me feel like I'm hunting in azoo I guess. Just too foreign a concept for me to have any desire to participate. Much rather hunt caribou or elk.
|
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
I have absolutely no desire to hunt Africa, I love hunting in Canada, that's about if for me outside of the USA.
|
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
not so much, theres something about having to go get a bunch of shots just so you dont come back with a third world disease. That thought really takes away from the hunt. hell my girlfriend is talking about taking an internship with national geographic and there is talks we might get a trip to africa out of the deal. Even as cool as that might be i would rather her go take pictures somewhere else. switzerland takes my vote if im gonna cross the pond
|
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
YES! One day I'll make there for a hunt.
What's a rifle?????:D |
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
I would have to grow tired or bored with every game animalthe USA has to offer and I never ever see that happening!
I do know people that have hunted in Africa and they have told me that the country is magnificant.Something about the heat, the snakes ,the insects, and the goofy looking Zoo animals.:DI know if it was my native country I would likely feel differently! I will say that some of the books I have read by Peter Capstick a Professional Hunter in Africa many years ago were some of the most excitingbooks I have ever read. His book Death In the long grass,is awesome! |
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
Africa is awesome and the best palce on Earth to bowhunt
Sometiem it cold not always hot All the game is eaten by either the client/ shooter, the ranchers family or the residents of the area It nothign short of Awesoem 99% of client I have had are already planning the next trip When you lie on your death bed its not the things you did that will haunt you its the things you didnt do..................... "Like to have Bowhunted Africa at leat once....." I started bowhunting there in 1966 and it was the high point of my life Lived there and was a PH from 1991 to 1999 Outfitter from 1993 to 1999 Awesome even for a Texas Boy Tink in Texas |
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
I'll be going back in September '07. September is a little late for a hunt, but I will make it fun nonetheless. I will be taking the Mathews along, but will have rifles there awaiting.
|
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
August & Sept are the best months to bowhunt Game is close tothe water & no chance of odd rains
Tink |
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
i would like to bowhunt, but have a heavy caliber pistol or rifle nearby, just in case.
|
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
You are right, game will be close to the water. It's looking like Kudu, Zebra, Springbok are on the list so far.
|
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
too hot in africa
|
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
If I won a trip there and it was at the right time of the year for bow hunting I'd be there. ;)
If it was a gun hunt I think I would sell it like previously mentioned and setup some grand adventure here in North America with bow in hand.:D |
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
I can't see spending the money to hunt Africa when you can not bring the meat home. A cape or mount is nice, but why hunt if you are not going tobe able to keep the meat? For my money, I'll take a qualityhunt in Canadaor Alaska.
|
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
I guess you fellas talkin about the heat, bugs, snakes, and stickersin Africa, obviously do not live in the South. Plus, we got critters that Africa don't have like "booguns" and "Ta-ta" I mean seriously, don't be caught in the woods around here without your Ta-ta stick!:D
YouLouisiana boys know who I'm talkin about! |
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?

RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
Would I ? Yes
Will I ? Maybe some day many years from now. |
RE: Would you hunt in Africa?
I surely would one day. I cant fathom why some people wouldnt want to take an opportunity like this. I can see how the cost would be prohibitive, but if you won the trip, why not have a different experience?
