Ticked!

ok. its finally a really nice day out. its like 66 degrees out right now. im actualy hot. i just got home from school and i was gonna shoot my bow for the first time since last fall(couldnt shoot wayyy too cold outside). so i get out about to shoot, my neighbor(old lady) comes out and sits right down. and since im kinda shootin towards her house(but i have my target up against our shed) i have to stop.[:@] i dont want her to get made and call the cops or something. I WANNA SHOOT MY BOW!!! its finally a nice day out!!!! just wanted to let everyone know

Old ladies get first priority on nice days. You have many more nice days left in your life than she does.

That's probably not what you wanted to read.:D:D

I'm a little suprised at this as well but I can't see your setup....can't you move your target elsewhere and still shoot?

RE: Ticked!

well actually there really is no other place i could put it, and my dad doesnt want me shootin up against the house cuz he doesnt want another hole in the house. but our shed is in the corner of our yard, and i have my target up against the side of our shed. im not shooting directly toward her house, but it is in the general direction. so i had to stop(never wanna take the chance of completely missing)

oh i did finally get out and shoot but it started kinda gettin windy after while.

It could have been worst. She could have been in a bikini or better yet going topless.

well whitecloud, know it can be frustrating, but she probably thought it was a great day to get some fresh air too. It does mess up the shooting, but it may be one of the only true enjoyments she can get is to sit in the sun. As MO said, more time to shoot and try to remember you will reach her age someday! [8D]

IMO, you should not be shooting in the direction of someone's house whether they are sitting outside or not. And not because they might call the cops. It only takes one flier, or an arrowpassthrough, or a freak ricochet and somebody being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Not that you aren't a top notch champion pro archer, but something kind of struck me....

MAYBE.....MAYBE.....if your Dad doesn't want you putting yet ANOTHER hole in the house...you shouldn't be shooting in a populated area anyway. :D

RE: Ticked!

i kinda saw that coming, but it was my bro that put the hole in the house. he doesnt shoot anymore

Relax whitecloud. You shoot away. I might sugest you look for an open spot in your neighborhood if you don't feel comfortable asking granny to take a brake sunning herself or if you can't shift and shoot between the houses toward the shed. A little bit of woods, I'm sure won't attrack too much trouble.

I have a new neighbor who I haven't met yet.Tomorrow I'm planning on shooting a little trap off my deck. I'll let you know how that goes.:D The good thing about my situation, I'm the President of my HOA.I'm just not sure how to address myself if someone complains.

i wish i could move. but i live in an urban(i guess thats what you'd call it) area and theres houses directly behind each other. if i were to shoot between the houses, i would actually be shooting more directly toward a dif house. and there are no woods around. im limited to how i can shoot. thanks for the suggestion though.

Think platform then. Either build your self one about 12' off the ground or find an old swingset you can modify. You should be good shooting down at an angle. A friend of mine had only a postage stamp for a yard in an urban area. He did have two trees ndwas able to mount a platform between. He shot downward only out maybe ten yards at most. Beyond that was a six foot fence and the neighbors house. He did it for years without incident.

Good luck

its not good. if you're loop breaks, or your release misfires, chances are your arrow is heading right for that house. not good in my opinion
if you do it anyway, you had better really take care to have the pin on the target when drawing because things do happen.

I don't see a problem with your set up, looks similar to mine. Gotta keep your eyes open.

It is almost the exact setup as our's also. We make sure no one is out when we shoot. The neighbors all now we shoot. Heck theywill come over to watch usandBS. The one old guy gets a kick out of watching us shooting off the flat roof off my Kitchen addition. Puts us up 18 feet.

We can shoot up to 30 yards in my yard. 45 yardswhen backed up against theone neighbor's house and shoot out of his yard. With his permission of course.Theold neighbor's son was back for a visit andbet I couldn't hit the target at that distance the one day we were shooting. You should of seen his mouth drop when I hit the bulleye. He bet me$25 I couldn't do it again. Hewas lucky I didn't bet. Well that or I was lucky... my next shot would have cost him$25. :D :D

We are extremely careful when we shoot. One guy shots and the other guy watches for vehicles on the road or people walking. We have high visibilty in the direction we shoot. Generally we have the dogs out with us when we shoot. They are very good at letting usknow when someoneis approaching long before they get close. That the only good thing about my wife's yappie house mutt. We been shooting out of my yard for years. So far no problems and not expecting any in the future.
