Default Rattled one in last night!!

I was sitting there about a half hour before sunset and did my 2nd sequence of some rattling. I put the antlers down and grabbed the glasses to glass where I was figuring it would come from. About a minute after I rattled, I seen it. Brown fur coming my way fast, I was pumped. Grabbed my bow and turned in that direction. It came right to where I figured it would. Then I noticed, no antlers!! Oh well, I would have shot a doe too. But then she figured she would break my plans. Instead of hanging to the edge of the field like I figured, she went out into the open field and got down wind. She was only 10 yards from my shooting lane. If she would have stayed on the edge of the field she would have hit an opening that wasn't downwind.

Oh well, it was fun and that was the first time I have had anything respond to rattling like that. She made a fast track to the edge of the field to see what was going on.

Maybe next time.

Default RE: Rattled one in last night!!

I bet it was a mature dominant doe, pissed at the thought of some other doe in heat in her territory that two bucks were fighting over. I've had something similar happen before when breeding in a particular area wasn't happening yet...

I bought at Wood's Wise Breeding Bellow call a few years back, the first year they offered it. Supposedly makes a severe doe in estrous I need it now sound, I practiced with it often.

On an early season hunt, a few hours before sunset, it was nice and calm. I knew breeding was way off, but I couldn't resist giving the call a try. I pulled it out, hit a few estrous bleats, then let go with the bellow... All hell promptly broke loose.

A mature doe came crashing it, and she was pissed. Her hair was raised, she looked like she was snarling, hell she was mad!. Of course she charged in dead downwind of me, and busted me (I had forgotton my scentlok and decided to hunt anyway). She promptly turned, and stomped away back to where she came from, her bedding area. It was a riot...
