arrowed an 8pt last night
I was in my tree last night waiting for the does to come out of their bedding area. I was surprised to see a nice 8pt working the fenceline along the thicket coming my way. He would eat a little then lean over the fence into the wind and sniff. "You in there girls?" Well, he got under my stand and started to the fence again. I thought it was now or never, but I didn't really like a shot directly under me. The arrow went deep and I could see him jump the fence and run away. Sure, then it started raining and spitting snow. I waited, went to the truck to get light and started looking. There was no blood because the hole was on the top side of the deer and didn't exit through the bottom. I searched until I was cold and wet and VERY discouraged. I went back this morning, sure I was not going to loose this deer. I knew there wasn't going to be a blood trail, so I combed the woods back and forth for almost two hours with no luck. Then I started following the major deer trails. On the second trail I went down, about 100 yards from where I hit him, I found my deer. Even though he's not a monster, he's the biggest deer I've gotten with my bow. The arrow went through the liver, cut a lung and knicked his heart, before sticking in his breastbone. Hard to believe an animal can go so far with so much damage to his parts. If you don't learn anything else from this post, please learn not to give up on a hit animal. Jim

RE: arrowed an 8pt last night
When you first started telling your story I was waiting for the "Oh Well" punchline.
WAY TO GO! Recovery is as much a part of the hunt as everything else.
Congrats on the 8 pt!
