Wal Mart is the scourge of small town America. They pay crap wages and run every small store and proshop out of business. We do it by wanting to save a buck but that's free enterprise. Your local bowshop owner is a fool for not beating Wally on their limited selection and making his money on bows and accessories.

Walmart is all about supply, demand, and seasonal product rotation. Everything is a give and take relationship: They have great prices but not the best supply and service; specialty shops have great supply and sometimes very high prices (and on occasion, elite snobs as salespeople). For me it is a Good day when Walmart has what I'm looking for, but it is "expected" when they don't.

Indy Hunter; Many hunters do not have a local Archery shop to buy from and the reality is not everyone has a credit card to order items overnight , or want to pay the extra shipping charges for the overnight item. That is why so many turn to Wal-Mart and many of the larger chain stores in their local areas. Your guess that I dont shop at Wal-mart is incorrect.I wasnt dissapointed that they wouldnt order an item 3 weeks prior to the end of season, I was dissapointed that they couldnt order an item 3 MONTHS PRIOR TO THE END OF SEASON. Broadheads are not a perishable item that will be a waste cost item to Wal-Mart it is a item that will store in backstock if not sold this year to sell next year, or can be left on the shelf to sell the remaining 3 months of the season. I usually shop at Wal-Mart because of the consistancy, Prices ,convience, Quality and avaliablity of items. I am aware that this is a seasonal dept so it is limited in shelf lifespan but really, only 2 weeks in season are open for orders( not including preseason ordering)so now it is no longer convienent , available or consistant to me. I dont usually buy there because his markup on items is Jawdropping usually, but I took the chance and they had what I was looking for, and for once it was $5.00 less than Wal-Mart. I have also found a few good Larger Chain stores in our area that have not succump to the influence of the Anti sentiment or presure. So the statement of take Wal-Mart for its worth, its only Wal-Mart, is a pretty realistic idea to me . Do you think this is what the corp office wants to be their new advertising campaign?

It has nothing to do with the pepole in the store ' they dont order . They may count items but they dont order .Seasonal items like that are bought in bulk and sent out to stores as a "corprate order or orders" . The store has no say in when or how many they get and when they are gone , they are gone till next year .

Like they said you have to take your chances with Wal-Mart. They are not in the sporting goods business and as much volume as I see running through the Super Wal-Mart near where I live I would guess that hunting equipment sales is a miniscule parcentage of their total revenue. I do feel your pain though, I was looking at buying one of those EZ Hangers this fall to hang my bow on. The look like they would work really well and be more convenient than my stand mounted holder because then I wouldn't have to take the quiver off all the time. Well I didn't buy it right away and when I finally decided to get it a couple of weeks later do you think they had any? Heck no, sold out in all three stores Ilooked in. Am I angry at Wal-Mart? No, I understand that I am shopping for sporting goods at a discount department store.

As far as the backstock comment somebody made that really isn't very feasible. When you figure the amount of space it would take to store a department full of hunting items (assuming they kept everyone happy and stocked things all season and not just your one size and brand of broadheads) then consider the size of the storage they would need to store all the items that may be seasonal in nature (hey, if they're gonna change a policy it's going to apply to all departments not just one) that would be a lot of square footage. Now consider cost to build, heat, air condition, light, etc, etc. Not to mention the cost of keeping that money tied up for months in inventory sitting in the backroom, which would be substantial. It goes beyond the scope of this forum but interest charges on corporate debt, cash flow, opportunity cost, etc, etc.

Bottom line you know you aren't going to Bass Pro or Cabela's when you walk in the door and the old broad says "Welcome to Wal-Mart!" so don't expect that kind of service. Go in early, before the season and buy what you might find a good deal on that you anticipate you might need for the upcoming season. If things happen during the season and you need something else check back but if they don't have it then go to the experts.

Maybe a dumb question but why only two weeks into the season do you need another six broadheads right away anyway? Have you shot that many deer???

True, but storing inventory costs big money. As Cabelas said, building, heat, personnel etc, and don't forget about taxes. Not a real smart move to keep items on a shelf that you don't plan on selling for another 8 or 9 months. Not to mention that archery equipment design changes from year to year, so if they make an improvement to your broadheads (or even the packaging), then the heads that wallyworld has on their shelf are now "old" and your probably going to buy the "improved" broadhead next year, not the old ones walmart had stocked. I would guess they order just enough to know that they will sell out and leave it at that. Ordering more is taking a risk for them, and I doubt that is how they got to be a multi-billion $ company.
LadyF, please don't take what I am saying the wrong way. I am in no way trying to come down on you at all. I've had the same thing happen to me, and they are especially bad with turkey hunting supplies (they ran out of turkey loads before the season even started!). Luckily I am in an area that has other stores within a 30-40 minute drive, plus a big sporting-goods store not far away. Not always convenient driving around to different stores, but better than the alternative.
