i dont get uncle ted
i was just watching ted nugets show "spirit of the wild" and hes talking to the camera in a normal voice and there deers running around 10 feet away from his tree stand not even looking at him or caring. I know if i even wisper and a deer thinks it heres me its going to run away, i just dont understand why those deer werent sacared of him even though he was obviosly talking loud
|
RE: i dont get uncle ted
MAYBE THEY WERE DRUGED OR SOMETHING LIKE IT!!
THATS WHAT HEY DO IN THIS DAYS TO GET A GOOD SHOT ON VIDEO.[:@] |
RE: i dont get uncle ted
some people just have a magnetic force to animals. I can talk a deer closer ,done it several times.Along with a intense spirtual connection between its creator and the creation
|
RE: i dont get uncle ted
um its nothing to do with your voice, obvously those deer have been around people before, i find that kind of cheap
|
RE: i dont get uncle ted
He probably has then chained to a tree like all of his other animals
|
RE: i dont get uncle ted
I've watched many of Ted's videos and I don't recall seeing any of them looking like they were drugged or certainly not chained to a tree.
It's easy to sit here behind a computer and criticize people but what exactly have YOU done to protect our hunting rights? Have you lobbied Congress? Have you stood in front of an audience of kids in schools to promote hunting and a drug free, alcohol free lifestyle? Like the guy or not he os the most vocal person out there fighting to keep our rights to hunt and own guns. Until you can say that you do or have done what he does for us you have no reason to criticize him. In fact you should be shaking his hand and thanking him. |
RE: i dont get uncle ted
Obviously .... a very tame deer herd. I suspect it's where they live and how high the fences are.[&:]
|
RE: i dont get uncle ted
There ain't no tame deer in Texas (they are the jumpiest deer I've ever hunted) and his ranch is not high fenced; but it would be ok if it was. He owns it and can do whatever he wants with it.
|
RE: i dont get uncle ted
Maybe their just in aweof the "mystical flight of the arrow."
|
RE: i dont get uncle ted
YEP I THINK IS THAT KICKER
|
RE: i dont get uncle ted
Why pick on Ted? I see that in alot of hunting videos.
|
RE: i dont get uncle ted
NICE SITE MLO3 GREAT PICTURES!![8D]
|
RE: i dont get uncle ted
I don't know if it high fence or not but I have thought it was because he has bison on his farm and I have watched shows where he has talked about thining the heard because it has grow to big. If they were wild I don't think that would happen with as many as he kills on his show and they are all on his farm. Could be wrong so don't club me after you read this.

I shot a deer once and when me and my dad were gutting it we were talking just as loud as if we were at home. We looked up and they were 2 doe 25 yards in front of us watching us. We each had a doe tag and he had his gun next to him. Mine was about 10 yards up against a tree. Those deer stood there as I belly crawled to get my gun. We were whispering to each otheron which one I would take and he would take. Those deer just looked at us the whole time. BTW this was state land. Best day we ever had. 3 deer on opening day. |
RE: i dont get uncle ted
GREAT DAY YOU HAD THEN, CONGRATS SPIKEH
|
RE: i dont get uncle ted
Ted is always going to get flack one way or the other. Personally I dont watch his hunting shows. kida corny. BUT!!!! I stand by him. He has done alot for us hunters. He has alot of saying power to ups in the congress. For that I commend him. To bad all the other big time hunting pro's wont step up to the plate and do the same. Has done alot for us Michiganders.
|
RE: i dont get uncle ted
ok i get that some times deer dont run like that guy said when he was gutting the deer. But come on your telling me the deers walked all the way from the woods to his Record rack deer feed and then ran around under his tree stand like 5 year old kids not caring about him moving or talking loudly(and they werent fawns) it just seems weird. And baiting is unfair right there, its like a guranteed kill if a buck eats there everyday.

RE: i dont get uncle ted
I'll tell you a few things I HAVEN'T DONE.
I haven't stipped half naked and shot a flaming arrow inside a crowded rock shot. (Nor been arrested for it.) I haven't paid anybody to catch animals and fence them in so I could pretend to "heap big TV Bwana". I don't need to pay somebody to bait for a few days and then lead me out to the bait pile in side the fence before the camera man gets there. In fact I'mpretty plain, just run of the mill dad and hunter who taught his own and a few other kids to follow the law and avoid shooting thier hunting partners in the face. Pretty boring stuff I reckon after you've been the "Motor City Madman". |

RE: i dont get uncle ted
One thing I've noticed here in Texas, you can talk as loud as you want and it wont alarm the deer - they are used to the sounds due to all of the natural gas, oil, cattle ranchers, etc etc.
However, if you move towords them, or make them feel threatened, and they are out of there faster than any deer i've ever seen. |
RE: i dont get uncle ted
Kicker, I would like to offer my heartfelt congradulations on your "Higher level of awareness" for noticing that Uncle Ted seems to hunt the worlds most "Human Tolerant" deer on a very regular basis. I know the hate mail is on its way,but I have a challenge. Lets watch a full seasons worth of episodes, and see how mant hunts are fenced or for "Wild exotics" More than half I gaurantee it. I AGREE, Ted is a great spokesman for hunting, but his shows are really cheesy.

I watched him in one of his own TV video shows explain how the "guide" prepared his hunt with the corn pile and then he sat there and shot game over it in a fence "presearve". |

BTW, DEER is alos PLURAL for many deer. It's not DEERS. [/quote] THANK YOU!:DI was going to start a thread on this as I have seen it a lot on here lately. Not a big deal but annoying |
RE: i dont get uncle ted
i agree that teds show is a bit cheesy, and he is probally shooting tame deer, however when close to any game it is better to talk in a normal voice (if you really think you need to talk), a whisper has a different decimal that deer can hear better and makes them more aware. if you ever get the chance try it. get close and talk normal. then whisper. i have tried this because i did not believe it and was amazed at the results

RE: i dont get uncle ted
I have been on golf courses where the deer will play on the course and let you hit balls at them and talk all you want or walk towards them until you get too close. I have been hiking on the AT and had a bunch of does let me hike within 50 feet of them before they moved down the trail another 50 feet and let me get close to them again before moving two more times before finally running off. I've seen bucks bedded within 75 yards of a chained barking dog. I've had does and a young buck come in my yard with my kids playing and yelling and on a swing and come within 50 yards of us and start eating chestnuts in broad daylight.Think about deer that feed next to roads, within 30 feet of cars flying by, peacefully eating. But let one car slow down or stop....Bam they're gone like a flash. It's all what deer are used to. I'm sure they're used to Ted talking all the time on his ranch (he is a bit of a motor-mouth) I've seen him chasing his buffalo on foot so I'm sure he's out a lot and loud a lot. He's definitely a vocal spokesman for hunting and 2nd amendment rights and I say more power to him. I saw him and his wife and daughter on some tv talk show making the host look like an uninformed fool. His wife and daughter know their stuff too.
Also, so what if his deer are fenced? I really get tired of the macho types that have their ego so tied to how difficult their hunts are, yet I doubt they book hunts for PA or NJ or some of the more overhunted areas in the states. It's not a elemtary school contest. If Ted enjoys hunting on a 5,000 acre fenced preserve, more power to him, that's more free-ranging deer for the rest of us. A large fenced in property is no worse/better than hiking three days into national forest and hunting. Your fence there is just miles of solitude. Either way you are hunting undisturbed deer. ("Well I earned it by hiking for three days." Well he "earned it" by making lots of money over many years, buying the right land, fencing it in, buying stock and managing the land. Which takes a lot longer than three days.)It's not like he's shooting them in a running pen. What diffence does it make? It doesn't make him or you a better man/hunter. Get over your ego, or tie it to something more important like how you raise your kids, how you interact with society, what you do to better mankind and just enjoy the time you have to hunt without all the competition. /rant |
RE: i dont get uncle ted
yeah all those cases are true but thats because those deer have been around people alot, the place he was hunting was out in the middle of no where
|
RE: i dont get uncle ted
Get over it. If you don't like his show, turn the channel.
I am beginning to see whysome people don't like hunters, after reading posts like this. The guy has done a TON of good for the hunting community and for gun rights. As compared to a lot of people who sit back and do nothing. Get off your ass and do 1% of the good Ted has done for usand then you can maybe think about opening your mouth. Its been said again and again, but we need to stick together. |
RE: i dont get uncle ted
I DONT LIKE HIM CUZ HE SMELLS FUNNY!!!
 Come on guys. We've all done stupid stuff. We've all screwed up at least once in our lives. The fencing debate? WE'VE DRIVEN THIS ONE INTO THE GROUND ALREADY.... Get over yourselves. Let the guy be who he wants to be. This isn't the soviet union... or france for that matter. So what if he isover the top, HE HAS EVERY RIGHT TO BE. |

RE: i dont get uncle ted
OK....my turn. I'm not a Ted fan. Just too over the top for me. If you'll recall, they say that on average 10 percent of the people are in favor of hunting, 10 percent are absolute antis and the rest are undecided. They could go either way. We all agree you'll never change an antis mind. I tend to believe Ted only makes the 10 percent who already are in favor of hunting(or the majority of that 10% anyway) feel good. He really does nothing to sway the 80 percent our way. In fact, his over the top, blood and guts talk and bull doo doo probably turns more people off. He's in the public eye, but it isn't necessarily good for us in my opinion. He's a loud mouth, uncouth phony as far as I'm concerned. And yes, he hunts most of the time behind fences. I don't think that does much to improve the hunter image. Especially when he has conversations in a tree and then says, "OK, let's let the blood out of this steak". Arrogant dufus I say.
