I just put the layaway deposit down on a new Fred bear. TRX 400. Should have it home in May. YAY. It's my first Bear bow. Shot it at Gander while trying to choose and with no string chubs or limbsavers or stabilizer sounded pretty dang good. Can't wait to get it home and start play... i mean practicing with it!

cheap?? I started out with a BearKodiak Special at the end of the 70's. Payed a $109 plus tax for it. I still have it. A bit noisey, but very reliable and accurate. Still pull it out to shot it every once and a while for fun. Good enough to take my first deer...

Tyler started out huntingand still uses his BearBadge bow. I payed $275 for it a couple years ago. Great bow with lots of adjustments for young shooters. Was good enough for his first deer...

We plan on keeping the Beartradition alive for when my daughter starts hunting. She will use Tyler's Badge bowfor her first huntingbow. If you noticed... we have another tradition going. Tyler used the same camos I used when I take my first deer with bow 22 years earlier. We might have to do a little hemmingfor Britney when she starts hunting... but she will wear those camos too. Oh by the way... I hope that doesn't come across as mebeing cheap as this thread seems to apply to anyone shooting a Bear. They are just a great set off camos back then and to this day... just as Bear bows are. Of course this is coming from a guy that presently shoots a Buckmaster so take it for what it is worth. MaybeI am just cheap!! But come to think about it... the Buckmaster lived up to it's name this year...

hmmmmmmmmmm wonder what brandbow I should get Tyler for his second bow??? Cheap seems to be working!![8D]

Troy

We are also at 24 sheds. We've been getting a lot of snow lately so our shed hunting is at a halt for now. Once it startsmelting, we will be back at it. Still a few bucks carrying but most have dropped. We should do pretty good as we have done a lot of scouting. Some very good bucks made it through another hunting season. Hopefully we can find their sheds.

Dagger made it but got pushed out of his bedding area at the end of season. No telling where he drop his sheds. He usually drops them early and might not have dropped themin the area his usually winters. Hope like heck we find them so we have 4 years of sheds to him. Tyler is worried but hewill have a lot of time to look for them. We have access to everything except 200 acres in this big area. Hope like heck he didn't drop them there since that was the area he got pushed into!! Time will tell.

Congrats on your sheds. Shoot us some pictures of your sheds when you get done looking.

Hey, I hunt with a Jennings Airmaster. Speedmaster, it's similar to your bow.

It's about 8 years old now. It's survived a dry-fire and a 20-foot freefall from the treestand, and escaped both episodes unscathed. For an older bow, it clocks in fairlyfast at 285 set at about 77#. The deer seem to like it. I think it stickered for about $300, whichwas a little pricy for a stick and string at the time. Now, buying a bow seems to require some refinancing of the mortgage or getting a lien against something, so I'm guessing that the Jennings will continue to be the bow-of-choice for the foreseeable future.

Troy - It won't be long before the young man in that picture is bringing in sheds of his own... BUT he'll need to pack a lunch to keep up with his old man.
Your'06 shed collectionseems to be going pretty well. My shed hunting is exactly that... HUNTING - not FINDING. I wandered through the hills for a couple hours again on Sunday and found nothing but a half-chewed-up bear skull, which I left behind. I didn't feel like driving to where I'd planned on going, so I was stuck going local.

I was just kidding and having fun with the post. It wasn't a" cheap " shot at you . I actually enjoyed the thread and glad you started it. I have a lot of good memorieswith the couple Bear bows, I've been around. No matter how much one spends on a bow,how popular orwhat brandit is... bottom line, it's the person behindthe bowthat decides the out come andnot the bow. Especially when it comes to hunting.
