WMA

I've always been told to go in the middle of the week, or go REAL EARLY to a secluded spot that you previously scouted out. WMA's are cool (I use them) but they can get over-hunted all to H-E-double toothpicks, and you won't find a deer/turkey/waterfowl/or even tree rats, for that matter within acres and acres of it.

1. do all of the following instructions, starting prior to sunrise.
2. Scout the area prior to the season. If unable then drive the roads and look for tracks. when you find them park a few hundred yards away and then hike into the woods near(not on) the tracks. get into a treestand at least 20 feet high, overlooking the deer trail.
3. Sit motionless all day. At 9 am you may come back to your truck and eat but return as soon as you finish. At least by 9:30 be back in your wstand.
4. sit motionless at least untill 1:30 then go to the truck and eat andurinate then get back to the stand.
5. sit motionless.
If you really want a deer stay all day without leaving. take and drink only water or apple juice. Take apples, peanut butter sandwiches, or peanuts to eat while you are in the stand. Don't make any noises, or move around. Stay until dark.
This is my method, other people might do it different.

What if the "Hokey Pokey" really is what it's all about?

I hunt WMA's in New Jersey. The only single rule I follow always is:
NEVER EVER GO IN THE WOODS ON SATURDAY! SUNDAY IS ILLEGAL SO I DON'T GO THEN EITHER.
Deer see everyone pull into the parking lot an hour before sunrise and crunch to their stands with flashlight beams bouncing.
Hunting season for me means taking days off work. I take Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays based on the weather report and the moon. The woods are mine alone. A typical day is to walk (slow & quiet) to my blind before sunrise. I make sure that I leave before the after work crowd arrives. I'll bet I have seen 10 times as many deer as anyone else in my WMA.
