Default RE: Scrapes and rubs

Looks like a few guys read your post, but no one wanted to offer an opinion. Peak scraping should be just kicking in about nowin your area. According to your state biologists peak breeding shoud be Nov. 14-16, so things are right on schedule. This is normal activity at this time of the year.

I'd not set up a dripper in the scrape, I'd set one up closer to where you think the buck is coming from. Dig up the ground with your rattling racks or a stick, pour a bottle of #1 Select Estrus or Special Golden Estrus from Wildlife Research Center in the scrape, pour a half bottle of Active Scrape in the dripper, put a little forehead scent on the overhanging branch. And hope for the best.

If you have more questions, on deer, elk, turkey, ducks or geese, post a NEW topic addressed to T.R., or e-mail me direct, and I'll try to help.

Scrapes generally start showing up a good while befroe the rut actually kicks in and will continue with less intensity for a couple of weeks after the rut. If you are thinking of making a scrape you should try to determine where the buck making the scrape travels either to or from the scrape you have found and make your own scrape closer to your stand with the dripper. You should also try to figure out when he is freshening up the scrape, night, morning, or afternoon. Of course once the rut kicks in full bore all time schedules are thrown in the trash.
