Default Bad Hit question

Ok guys this afternoon i have a doe broadside about 5 yards away from the bottom of the tree i'm in. I decided since i havent taken a deer in the previous 4 seasons i would take this doe. I hit her high(thought) when i shot. The arrow went right through and the deer ran about 30yards and stopped. I thought i heard it go down, i waited another 5 minutes or so and start climbing down out of my tree. I'm standing on the flat rock i put in the crotch of the tree looking off towards where the deer went and see movement. I look and the deer is walking back to me. It would walk about 5-6 feet, stop, look, stick its head up in the air and sniff. Then it would move another 5feet and repeat the process. By this time i'm pumped up and started thinking i must have missed the first shot. It was about 20 yards from me but heading towards the thick field i was over looking so i decide to take another shot. I totally missed this time and hit a tree.(doe fever) Needless to say the deer hauled arse into the field. Ok i get down and find my first arrow. The arrow had hair and fat all on the broadhead, along the shaft was all fatty looking, and on the arrow fletchs was some hair a little blood and more fat. I mean the only part of the arrow with any blood on it was the fletchs. There was no blood on the ground anywhere and just a few tufts of white hair. The arrow had no odor like a gut shot would have and no food type particles on it.
Anyone have any idea where this would indicate the deer was hit? I feel pretty bad about this. I know the deer was hurt, but it didnt appear to be when it came back. Has anyone had something like this happen to them before? I'm still in shock that it came back to see what i was. Also, two of us looked for about 2 hours for blood trail/more hair and then did circles into the field and found nothing.

Dirtto Brisket hit and if you don't find her she will survive easily and with little problem. Some even pull the arrows out themselves and fling them off the trail.
