RE: What brand of arrows?

Depends, are you looking for carbon or aluminium arrows? An all around good choice is Easton. They make the best aluminium, and from what I've heard (I don't shoot carbon) their carbons are pretty good too. Another choice for carbons that I've heard about is Gold Tip. Hope this helps. If you can give us a little more detail of what you are looking for, you should be able to get some really good suggestions.

Gold Tips get the xt .003 or the pro .001 Great arrows. http://www.goldtip.com/products/category.asp?fid=1-8A2DDB1C-8633-4CD9-A19F-763CB802BE19&rnd=160845796
They have a great website with a FOC caculator and KE caculator.

I like the performance of Easton's XX-78's for both hunting and competition. Very reliable and the straightest aluminum arrow available.
Good Hunting

RE: What brand of arrows?

The best advice I can give.....get the best arrows you can afford. I would take a good look at Gold Tip Pro Hunters, Easton Axis, Easton A/C/C, or Carbon Express Maxima's. Another might be a Carbon Tech Cheetah or Rhino.
Every company out there makesat least one high quality arrow. Just depends on how much money you do, or don't, want to spend. Personally, I shoot the A/C/C and couldn't be happier.

Gold Tip Pro Hunters although I honestly believe any major brand is good.

I shoot Easton aluminums, and my wife just got new Carbon Express arrows. The camo on the Carbon Express is really impressive. I know the deer don't care, but they are definetely cool looking.

RE: What brand of arrows?

I have always shot Gold Tip, in competition and for all my hunting. The hunter series is great for camo shafts. If you have a dealer, and they have some testers, try some different arrows from other manufacturers. Although, there are so many makers out there, there is sometimes no tried and tested way to find a more accurate arrow just by shooting it in one day. If you have specs on the arrows, for instance fps speed, kinetic energy, and weight, then you can easily formulate what arrow would do better for you and your bow.

RE: What brand of arrows?

I would suggest for the new hunter-shooter to pick up some not too expensive carbon arrows. They are so durable. The new shooter will typicly make many mistakes and put the arrow into something hard (shed, fence, trees....) or even sometimes miss a target or two (or three, or many). So go cheep your first dozen and when you get better go with a quality arrow.
Good luck
I use Carbon Express.

I use Blackhawk Vapor Pro Series arrows. They are inexpensive as far as most carbon shafts go, they are tough, and I hit the X ring as long as I'm doing my part.

RE: What brand of arrows?

Well, I am going to check these brands out this week and maybe spring for them this weekend. As well, I have another question, I am shooting some carbon arrows my pal gave me to get started with and he warned me that they are longer than what I will be sized for due to his draw being longer than mine. I have shot 2wice with them and have noticed they look like they fly erratically and hit the target at various angles. I dont think they should do this and I am guessing it is due to them being too long and flexing while being launched. Any ideas?

I believe its more on the length of the arrow not being right, than the shooter. I assume you are following through when you shoot, so with that being in mind, check your arrow rest for loose parts, and when you finally get your length of appropriate arrow size, then you can do some accuracy checking.

RE: What brand of arrows?

Either the arrow is too long creating a spine that is too weak, or you simply need to tune your bow. When you decide what arrows to get, tune your bow to those arrows.

i don't mean to offend anybody, but i tried shooting 45lbs with carbon express and the arrows are all over the target. I bought some new BEMANS! and they work great. over 30in. in length, are perfect for low and high poundage draw weight and i even tried it. The results... 3/4 inch groups at 20yds with a 45lb draw weight. I love Beman arrows!

RE: What brand of arrows?

You are getting some decent advice, but not what I'd call the best bang for the buck. Gold Tips are a popular favorite and XT's work very well, but there is no reason to spend the extra money to get the Pro series. They are better than the XT's in straightness and weight tolerance, but it is very slight. I'd stick my neck out right here in public and say there probably isn't more than a couple of people on these boards that can shoot well enough to tell the difference between .003 and .001. Get the XT's and be happy.

Yeah, this gold tip business sounds about right. I can get them by the half dozen so If I dont like one, I can just get the other later. Thanks again.

Ok, I have a PSE typhoon bow I just bought and it has a drop away rest with nothing else touching the string. How fast do you estimate it can throw a 350 grain arrow? It is rated at 298 to 303 from PSE, so throw in the factor of the lies they tell, I am guessing it is actually more like 270 with a 350 grain arrow at a 70 pound draw. I dont have a chrono to test it on so I am just guessing. Let me know if you have a more educated guess. It is currently set a 60 pound draw but will be turned up close to 70 during the elk season.
