Default New Aspect on Bear Hunting

Don't know if you all watch the news. Several days ago a gentleman was attacked by a 400 lb. black bear at a petting zooin my home town. When I arrived on the scene the bear had just been shot and killed by a local deputy. The bear had been raised since itwas a cub. I am not going to describe details butif I ever go bear hunting I don't believe it will bewith abow and I'll be a good distance when I pull the trigger. The elder gentleman was life flighted and died enroute to the hospital.

I thought petting zoos were for small animals like cubs and babies, not 400lb. mature bears.

Makes me think of a little news segment me and the wife watched one night about amatuer bullfighting. We laugh every time we think about that. Theres just people in this world who do really dumb stuff. [8D]

A bear having the ability to kill you isn't "a new aspect".

I'll still use my bow.

A whitetail deer (especially a rut crazed buck) has the ability to kill you also. Think about that when your bowhunting from the ground.

400 pound bear at a petting zoo??!!
Looks like I'd be moving. What's next . . . mountain lion kiddie rides?
I'm not a lwayer, but I smell a lawsuit.
As far as weapon of choice . . . if I'm hunting a petting zoo, sure as hell gonna bring some big iron.
Everywhere else . . . bow is fine. Ever seen hunt video of black bear coming up the tree right under the tree stand!! Adds a different dimention to the hunt!
So sorry to hear the fellow didn't make it. Just can't believe it!

Saw the story on the St Louis news and wondered if you were on the scene. They said something about having the police kill a second bear they had also? Meth labs now petting zoos. Never a dull day at the office

The second bear was also put down at the request of the owner. The Sheriff's office is catching some grief over it.When you see a sight like that you couldnt blame the owner for not wanting anything to do with it.
Something you never think you would see in rural Illinois.
