Indoor Range, What to use as a backstop???
#1
Well I am getting a new house and I will have an 18 yard indoor range in the basement. I have a bag target that I will be using am wondering about something behind that. Does anyone have an indoor range? What do you use behind the target? I really don't want to hit a solid wall with my gold tips. I know most on here would never miss a bag target at 18 yards but just in case I mess up a shot.[:'(]

My Dad and I have big heavy sheets of cardboard glued together. We made it about 4 inches thick. I don't think this will stop an arrow dead, but hopefully it will slow it down enough that it won't do too much damage to the concrete blocks if it hits them.

At the local pro shop I saw a Block target that is about 3'-4' tall and about 2' wide. This could be both backstop and target. If you miss thing then archery is definetely not for you! The only limiting factor of this target is that it will run a little over $200, but there is no question that it will take lots and lots of abuse.

Field Logic makes an target called the Range. It's the ONLY one I would use inside my home. http://www.rmarchery.com/index.asp?spage=psearch&pid=1320326 You may be able to find it cheaper...they weigh about 75 lbs and last FOREVER.

If I was putting in my own range, I'd build a "false" wall using chickenwire with rags or blankets stuffed behind it. 18" deep should be plenty. Front it with foam material.
Before I got my bag target I had one of those cheap square pieces of foam targets. When I started blowing through it, I'd put a garbage bag stuffed with a blanket behind it. It took me quite a while to penetrate fully through the bag and when I did, I just put more clothes in it.
