Default DEER # 3 FOR 2002

I have a stand that I havent been to since weekend before last. So I decided to hunt it tonight. The wind was perfect, the weather called for scattered showers and the corn was just harvested and they were in the process of harvesting the corn field just to the north about a 1/2 mile. I bumped a small 8 point bedded in the meadow on the way to my stand. I got in my stand around 3ish and was in the process of nocking my arrow when 2 button bucks about 36 yards away were coming towards me. I spent a good 45 min watching these 2 just browse and mill around. They eventually made their way to the cut corn field. Around 5pm I could see a big deer with 2 smaller deer trotting along the field and then they cut in the woods in front of me and then down the ridge, they trotting along at a pretty good pace as if something had spooked them off the field at to me. They came in really fast so I kept the tree infront of me between me and them so they wouldnt see me when they came down the ridge. The larger of the 3 deer stopped in front of me and the 2 fawns were right behind it . I couldnt see the big does head so I knew she couldnt see me so I drew back and I touched the release and the arrow found its mark. The deer ran away from me and I watched its backside run off, all the while the fawns followed the deer. The blood trail was easy to follow and I found my deer no farther than 65-70 yards from my stand. I walked up to my doe and said OH @*$@ it wasnt a doe it has a 4 inch spike on one side and a fork horn on the other.Well now I have used both my buck tags and cant take another buck till next year. Im not real happy. So I guess I have learned a good lesson. Next time I will wait until I can see the head and Identify what sex and size the deer is before I shoot. Some lessons I guess I have to learn the hard way.So now I can doe hunt or camera hunt or take my son hunting. I post a photo when I get them developed.

Congrats Lady Forge!!! Your'e three up on me this year

I'm not gonna get the opportunities to hunt this year like most years. My partner at work is off for seven months for surgery , which means I'm stuck at work for 60 hours a week. On the bright side , I should be able to swing another new bow in 2003

I'm starting a three day weekend on Friday AM , so I'll be hunting hard and hopefully have something for the freezer and some pics next week.

WTG Lady Forge!

What are you going to do with all of the venison?

I know....share it. When I got my buck back from the butchers I thought - "What am I going to do with all of this?" Got 60 lbs back. Amazing.

Man it goes fast. I have given a bunch to friends and have many more asking for some if I can share. I've had red meat EVERY NIGHT for the last 9 days now. Man I love it. Can't remember when I've eaten this good.

Can't wait to get #2.

Congrats again.

Comgrats on #3, I did the same as you did last year, I killed what I though was a doe that turned out to be a 4 point, its beam was as thin as my pinky and there was a lot of low limbs around his head.

Lady Forge,
WTG. Question? Did this deer involve the special solution you used last week that you menting on the other BB. If so I guess it was a leftover batch? Glad you are knocking em dead. I do believe you are putting us men to shame.
