RE: How can you sit all day?
The first few hours I'm ok but after a while I bust out a gameboy and play Madden 2003. I look around after every play. Works great and keeps me in the stand all day.

RE: How can you sit all day?
I do not hunt all day all the time, but when I do I often think to myself, "Man this is going to be boring and will seem like an eternity" The funny thing is, the time seems to fly, between birds, racoons, possums, and hopefully the occasional deer I always seem to be entertained, especially when the squirrels start doing their thing, there is nothing that will make you feel dumber than hearing leaves rustling and twigs snapping for an hour and after verifing every time that it is squirrel making the noise you ignore it for 10 minutes and then turn to see a deer leaving the area that you heard the noise from, as a result I do not care if there are 1,000 squirrels making noise I stay busy checking out every sound.

RE: How can you sit all day?
I just think of how much I miss bow season during February and March, and how long it seems to take to get to October again the following year. It's easy to savor every minute when I am in my stand, the time goes so fast. There is no way I could read or play a game, what if I miss something!?

RE: How can you sit all day?
I sit in my stand watching all the activity around me. For the past 4 seasons I have participated in Indiana DNR's Bowhunter Survey. They send you a chart of different game and furbearers that you mark numbers, hours hunted and notes. I have had some of the best times in my stands doing this. Last year; heard something running on the opposite side of a feeder creek only to look up and see a bobcat hauling butt towards the river with a mudd yellow coyote in hot pursuit. I thought cats didn't like water but that one made it across (80 ft) long before the coyote.
But then I guess I'm just easily amused! GForce Shoot often - Hunt always |
RE: How can you sit all day?
My dad stayed in his stand from daylight till dark when i was starting to hunt, now my dad never archery hunted he just rifle hunted so i knew that if i wanted to hunt that i would have to stay on stand all day , yea it sucked when i was 12,,13, 14, 15, 16, but when i was 17 you couldnt drag me out of my stand until dark and from age 17 on there wasnt to many years i didnt get a buck in rifle season, then i started archery hunting when i was 19 and for some reason i just hunt in the morning on stand and make a few drives with my friends from about 10:30 till 2:00 then head for the afternoon stand.
The bad thing usually in rifle season it was freezing out, but i stuck it out and i found out that if you take your eyes off the woods for a while thats when you usually get burnt by the bucks or does. so i just watch the woods.... Hunting with a bow brings about a different challenge on every hunt!!! |
RE: How can you sit all day?
Tazman,
I know what you mean about those stupid squirrels. Every evening I swear I'm going to kill every squirrel in the woods they make so damn much noise. But every time I hear a leaf rustle I HAVE to look, like some stupid dog that falls for the fake throw every time. I just can't help it, I know I'd be kicking myself if it was a deer and I wasn't ready for him because I thought he was a squirrel. |
RE: How can you sit all day?
Hey Cabelas4Toys,
Keep checking on them noises, I had the same problem last year and one time it was 4 deer that ran up on me...so keep checkin them squirrels. |
RE: How can you sit all day?
1. Read a book
2. Balance your checkbook 3. Listen to the game on your Walkman 4. Crotche (sp?) (what my wife does) 5. Study for class (College/HS students) 6. Read all those hunting mags your behind 7. Take along the latest version of Cabelas to make your X-mas list (what better environment to know what you're missing?) |
