First, let me explain that I'm FANATICAL about scent control. My clothes are washed in baking soda and scent-free detergent and hung ouside in the rain to rinse again and dry. I always shower before every hunt with scent-free detergent and hunt downwind. Yesterday, I walked 1 1/2 miles to come in from the backside of an area a little over 1/2 mile away. I crossed no likely trails on the way in and the slight wind was blowing perfectly (according to my breath which I could see). The first deer showed up about 7:30am and got 1/2 step away from offering me a shot. She was obviously catching scent (nose high in the air--testing). Before offering a shot she stomped the ground (letting all others who would later appear of her discovery) and then snorted several times loudly. All the time, the wind was blowing towards me and I had never walked anywhere close to where she was. How'd she do that??? The upside is that less than 10 minutes later, another doe got in the way of my arrow. She made a great catch and ran about 50 yards!



Today's small bucks are tomorrow's trophies.

Well she may not of been smelling you. It could have been something else that she didnt like.
