Default What a day!

A friend and I went hunting today, we only have til the 10th to hunt.
This morning he has a big doe within 20 yards and as he draws his bow the arrow comes off the rest. By the time he gets it back on and the bow drawn the deer are gone[]
I saw nothing this morning.

We go into town for lunch. Lunch was good!

Back to the woods we go.
Chris is going tohunt the same stand but I decide to go to the other side of a huge field and hunt a stand no one has been to since Oct.
I hike about a half a mile across a snow covered, plowed corn field. If you have never walked across a snow covered, plowed field I can tell you it is not fun.
I get to the tree line that the stand is in and walk towards the tree.
I get there and my stand is gone! Some SOB stole my frickin stand! On posted, private land.
I am sooooo pissed. I stand there for a little while wondering where to hunt?
I can go back to the other woods and hunt the same stand as in the morning. I can walk about another 1/2 mile or more to a couple other stands.
I decide I have walked enough, it is 34 degrees out and I am already sweating like I just dug a well.
I ease down the tree line to a big brush pile.
I set up in the pile and can watch several trails from there.

Well, 4:15 comes around and my butt is numb from sitting on a 6" diameter branch.
I decide to get up and just walk slowly towards a hayfield on the back end of the property to see if the deer are still using it.
I get to the wooded, brushy fenceline and there are 3 deer in the field, about 85-90 yards away.
There is no way I'm going to be able to get on them so I am just watching them in my binos.
I put the binos down and look to my left and there are 3 more deer, and they are headed my way!
It is a doe and two of her young.
They are headed to a gate that is about 35-40 yards behind me.

I pick a spot to shoot thru and when the doe steps into it I pull the trigger, arrow goes right over her back. I guess it wasn't as far as I thought!
She turns around and heads along the fence line but about 30 yards out.
She is snorting, stomping and looking at me.
I just stand there.
I did get another arrow nocked.
I find another hole in the brush to shoot thru and as she steps into it I shoot arrow #2 at her. BINGO!
She made it about 70 yards and piled up in the field!
#3 bow kill for this year and my first ever with a bow from the ground.

I am still pissed about the stand.
I thought it would never happen to me.[:@]

Look atthe positive note, if you had sat in your stand all day, you may have never seen that doe.

Oh wait, who am I kidding, I would never want my stand stolen.

At least you did have a somewhat happy ending though.

What kind of stand was it? I am assuming a hang on or ladder stand correct?

It was one of 8 Cabela's ladder stands we own.
At least we used to have 8.
Not that big of a loss $ wise, about 60.00 and it was about 6 years old.
But still.
Theives suck!
The thing is, where it was at,it just about had to be another "hunter".
Itwas about a mile from the road.
I hope they fall out of it and break their leg.

I was talking to a customer at work and he was telling me about a lady he works with that caught on a game cam, a father and his son stealing one of her stands.
Now there is a way to spend some quality time with your kid!

What is the world coming to?

Yep, theives suck.

Beullhunter!

I had the very same thing happen to me earlier in the season with a huge 12 point ,just as I was about to draw when this buck walked behind a tree and was about to enter my shooting lane ,the unexpectable happened ,my arrow fell off the string .By the time I re knocked my arrow ,he had cleared my shooting lane,he then hung around just inside the bedding area for about 15 minute's, but I was unable to get a clean shot at him .All I can donow is hope that he make's it till next season.

Yep, don't know if you remember it from November or not, but had the same thing happen to me... went to a spot I hadn't hunted in a while only to find my stand gone. I ended up taking a nice P&Y that afternoon, though -- so, like you, at least I had some consolation. But you're right: Thieves suck!

It was late last night when I posted about my day.
I left a few things out.

10 feet into the woods in the morning I ran right into a twig, took it in the eye! Still bothering me. Good thing it was my left eye! Might have to start wearing clear saftey goggles in the morning

Chris missed another doe last night. He is having the kind of season I had last year. I missed 7 deer in a row last year.
This year I am 3 for three even if it did take four arrows.

I was using,
Mathews Switchback
Beaman Camo carbon arrows
Magnus "Nugent Blades"
