Totally Disgusted!!!!!!

I was in the woods early Sunday morning and what I found made me sick to my stomach.

While looking around for a new spot to hunt I came across some deer carcuses 1 buck 1 doe about 20 yards from each other both where double lunged.

But what really made me sick was that the rack on the buck was hacked off and both deer where left there nothing else was taken.

Why would any one go out and shoot deer and only take the rack.
I am guessing it was someone who does not a licence (Poacher).

I did call the ranger and met him at the parking area and took him to the downed deer.
He is going to start patroling the area and checking every vehicle he sees there for vehicle hunting permission tags. This area is public land but you must have a vehicle tag which is free but you must have a hunting licence and hunter safty card to get the vehicle tag.

I sure would like to come across this moron in the woods.

ausie - guy - I AGREE WITH YOU. 2 YEARS AGO I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM ON MY FARM. SO I DECIDED THAT I WOULD SIT AND WAIT FOR THEM FOR WHEN THEY RETURNED. THEY EVEN GOT SO BOLD THAT I FOULND ONE OF THE GUYS IN MY TREE STAND. WELL THAT DID NOT SIT RIGHT WITH ME AT ALL. I TOOK MATTERS INTO MY OWN HANDS AND THE PROBLEMS STOPPED. I THINK IT HELPS THAT THE DNR OFFICER IS ONE OF MY BETTER FRIENDS.

This is not the first time I heard of this. Everyone on this forum needs to get together and catch the people who do this nonsense. It makes me sick to my stomach. Lets keep our eyes and ears open and turn in everyone who likes to poach illegally, and call the game commission when you suspect or see anything like this. Iam glad you called the Game Commission Ausie-guy. I hope they catch who ever is doing this.

Okay, I can understand a poacher taking the buck and cutting off the rack, but why the doe? Since he's not taking the meat home, you think he just enjoyed the act of killing?

Discipline -- not desire -- determines destiny.

Yea, it's the work of an idiot. The weekend before last years gun season opener, I went out pheasant hunting with my golden and he found a site that caused me much distress. At the end of a weed strip between cut-out soybeen fields, Chancy found four deer, one buck, three does, two of them really small. All were shot and killed by slug. The backstraps and the hind-quarters missing from all. I was sickened, saddened and furious all at the same time. This also on public land, I stopped at the DNR check station and let them know were they were located. This DNR property doesn't allow antlerless permits and all were shot out-of-season. The property manager assured me they would keep the area under watch, but I doubt the jerk(s) responsible would be stupid enough to come back. Or would they?

Indiana DNR has a program in place as many do. It's called T.I.P., Turn In Poachers. PLEASE everyone: turn-in any un-ethical hunters, poachers and any obvious illegal findings where ever you hunt.

These kinds of actions by degenerates need to be addressed or our hunting rights and opportunities may be affected.

While out this weekend scouting in an area that was closed to hunting (on the military base some areas are closed to hunting while troops are in the area) I met a guy. He says he was scouting but he had a bow with him....I put a call into the game wardens to give them the tip ....ya know...to be on the safe side. Gonna suck to be him!

I hate those *%^holes! Those kind of people should be shot on sight.

Gforce
Where did you find those deer? I live in Ft. Wayne and pheasant hunt quite a bit at the Huntington Resevoir. 3 out of the last 5 years I have found 3 groups of 4 deer poached. They had the backstraps and hind quarters cut out. I reported it to the CO's there but I'm sure they never caught the people.

I have seen this on the farm I hunt in WV. I have found several does with what was probably a .22 mag hit to the head.......just left laying.

It's a shame.

I commend you for calling in the rangers, hopefully he can help solve the problem.

aussie-guy: ur not talking about the one by lofers bend are you??? because i hunted there and saw some guys that i didnt like the looks of...one time he shot at a deer, and didnt even look for his arrow... i found it two days later about 20 yds in front of my stand...pissed me off. they walked right into me about 30 yds away.

I am not too sure where lofers bend is but this spot is down CR 1911 over the train tracks an go down the dirt track about 2 miles there is a marked enterance and parking area there.

I found the deer straight in from the enterance about 600 yards and 40 yards off to the right of the walking track.

If you like email me with a description and if you know their car rego number and I will pass it on to the ranger.

RE: Totally Disgusted!!!!!!

Barile,

I also live in Fort Wayne and the deer that I posted about I found at Huntington Reservoir section 23. If you know where the parking lot is that is directly south of the Shooting Range, walk south of the parking lot down the access road. There are usually two strips of soybeans with a brush and grass srtip between them. The find was at that end of the grass underneath a couple of 10-12 foot scrub trees.

That day I left that area to go across to the Markle side with my dog. I was driving slowly down a county road that splits the south side of the property from private grounds when a hunter with his dog in the car stopped and asked me if I was looking for a downed doe. He stated that his beagle had located on that was slug shot in the area he had just left. This is sad, almost as sad as the culprits.

A number of people have told me of the coyote population there over the years. Now it sounds as though there is another more hideous predator that needs to be found and dealt with accordingly.

That's the section. When I found them there were still 5 gallon buckets sitting there filled with some meat. I think the poachers may have been scared off and didn't take everything. That is the 3rd time in the last 5 years I have seen that on the resevoir property. Another time they left 3 deer and 2 fox in a parking area. It makes me sick.

Put-n-take is only a few weeks away. Maybe I'll see you.

RE: Totally Disgusted!!!!!!

Barile,

Yes that was what I noticed. The buckets were turned on side and I could see where some critters had made off with whatever was left inside.

After putting 2 and 2 together, I changed my decision on another find I made there in 2000. In mid-September I usually go out squirrel hunting on my birthday, so I went to that same parking area and walked to the hardwood stand of trees that's SE of the lot. I dropped 2 fox squirrels, one was the largest I've ever seen. As the sun started to set I began walking to my truck when I happened to look out into the strip field closest to the road. I seen what I first thought was a pile of soybean harvest waste until I could just make out the white lines surrounding a deers nose.

When I walked up, there laid a nice buck, would have been an 8-point except that the left G2 was broken off apparently just before losing velvet. There was 4-5 different sets of coyote tracks around it and several fox prints. I assumed it was a coyote kill, it was fairly fresh 1-2 days. But as I looked back on the episode, both hind legs were gone and the hide stripped up the back just like the ones found there last year. This crap blows.

If I'm there for P-N-T, I'll be in a Blue Grand Cherokee. On the rear window there is a sticker that says "I'D RATHER BE BOWHUNTING".

Stop me if you see me, you sound like an ethical hunter and I would be glad to meet you.
