How far is your average shot at a deer?

Well,with a bow probably only 11-15 yds.With a rifle probably 40-50yds.

I try and keep it close, within 20 yards....

I put 16-20. This year I have shot and recovered from 8yds, 17yds, 19 yds and 24 yds. That comes to an average of 17.

16-20 yards suits me.

I shot one @ 12, 23, and my longest ever 43. I vowed I would never take a shot over 30-35 yards but I watched her for over an hour and had no shakes whatsoever so I took the shot. It was the best shot that I have ever made and probably ever will. I probably won't ever take another shot that long but the circumstance was perfect.

Don't get me wrong, I practice from time to time at 40yds just in case but someone saying their average shot is over 40yds is just nuts!

I shoot close. Has to do with how and where I hunt. I have shot deer out to 40 yards but avearge bow shot out of 67 deer has been less than 15 yards.

IMHO, It's better to be a good hunter than a good shot.
