Rubber Boots vs Leather Boots

I am currently hunting with leather hiking boots that have a gore tex lining. Is it ok to waterproof (scent of silicone) these during the hunting season or is it better to hunt with rubber boots (no silcone)? How many hunters use rubber boots as compared to leather boots?

I currently use Rocky Gore-Tex lined boots. They are the high-topped ones with some leather but mostly fabric, although I have been thinking of switching to a full rubber boot.

I am currently using a full rubber/ realtree pattern boot (itasca? I think). It is my 1st year in a full rubber boot and I'm liking the results. I'll use them as long as I can and when I start to get too cold this winter, I'll probably switch to my trusty cabellas.

You couldn't ask for a much better scent disperser than a leather boot. When your feet sweat the moisture has to somewhere (into the leather). With rubber boots you can wash the liner to eliminate the scent. With a good liner they're rated to -100 F.

I would have to say the rubber boots. I just recently bought the rocky buckstalker with a 1000 grams of insulation. they might be a lil hot in the early season but when it gets cold my feet wont.

I believe that sometimes leather boots can leave a human scent trail. I always wear LaCrosse burlys or LaCrosse diamondback snake boots. And I have seen deer right in the same spot that I was earlier.

Leather boots STINK, period.

The best way to ruin a stand s to walk to and from it a couple times with leather boots.

Rubber boots are IMO a MUST when bowhunting, But then again i wear rubber gloves enroute to my stands so I may be a little touched

Rubber boots during bow season. It's hot here in Ga. during the bowseason and the rubber boots seem to contain your scent. Deer cannot readily pick up anything from the rubber, but not the same story with leather. During cold weather I go to Rocky boots (canvas uppers/gortex lining/rubber soled). Either of these seem better than leather uppers.
Deer simply cannot smell 'em.

Just my opinion...

Smack 'em where it hurts!

Wear what's comfortable. Don't wear them in the house and things like that. I know everyone says rubber contains you odor. BUT.. BUT... BUT... It also makes your feet sweat like nothing else. In the best of days your feet will sweat in rubber. That's uncomfortable to live with... plus it can lead to cold feet. Some rubber boots stink worse than bear feet. Stay off the trails as much as possible and dress warm and dry. If you move so much as a toe with rubber boots it just pushes all that stinky foot sweat smell right out of the top of the boots. Just moving around on a stand generates a big stink in rubber boots. I know I'm an odd ball on this (According to the EXPERTS) who all write the same story... wear rubber. But they're either cold or hot, make your feet sweat more than anything, are not as comfortable as leather or Cordura, don't offer the protection... SO, why wear them. Hunt smart and comfortable. Wear what you like.

I have to agree with Shortdraw. I wear leather boots with cotton socks and i certainly don't sweat in them and im in Texas. For some reason if i would sweat the cotton socks would absorb most of it anyway, not the leather. They are more comfortable than rubber, warmer in cold weather and if they are used only for hunting and kept free from gas oil etc. i.e. stored away when not hunting there should be no problem. I have not seen deer pick up my scent where i have walked wearing leather boots or if they did it didn't seem to bother them. Didn't the indians wear leather moccasins?
