I also forgot to mention that our trail ended at a guys fence who is a anti hunter who keeps deer penned up. My buddy jumped up a deer right at that fence, I bet it was my deer and he couldn't jump the fence because of his wound. This was when it was real dark. Theres a mix of "wild deer" and "semi wild deer in the area. I'm thinking I shot a "semi wild deer". Makes no difference, he's dead and I didn't get him and have meat in my freezer.

Sounds like you learned your lesson, albeit the hard way. Never, never, never, aim at the shoulder, that's for the rifles. Also, take your time, wait, and trail the deer yourself, quietly and thoroughly.
