First you don't have a tag, then you say you have extra tags. Which one is it? You made a mistake and your painting yourself into a corner on a public forum. If you have the tag, tag the thing, it's that easy. Take the responsibilty for your actions, tag it, and take it home. But don't let the thing lay there and rot.....that would be the real irresponsible thing to do.

Why ask what the right thing to do isif you have already made up your mind that you aren't going to do the right thing? By the way Ken, you basically already turned yourself in if anyone in the Iowa DNR reads this post. It is very easy for authorities to track anyone down through their internet service provider.Good luck.

They came in right at last light and I couldn't see the second one.

The way things looked when I got down,I suspected there was a second deer that I couldn't see.
I can't explain it, I just knew somehow I had killed two; after I shot there were all kinds of deer running around that I hadn't seen when I zeroed in on this old gal.

I did remember seeing two deer leave together after the shot though.

Finally after painstakingly going through everything in my head I sorted things out and found the second deer.
Here's what this story sounds like to me.

You were hunting over a bait pile and deer were coming in at last light. (almostdark) You got stuck in your stand a little late (could hear the deer coming) and could just see the doe come to the pile (new fiber optic sights work great)and could not seethe fawn behind her, but knew it was there. (sounds fishy)
You shoot and a bunch of deer take off you didn't see. (maybe it wastoo dark)
So, you were hunting after hours and "accidently" killed two deer.
Guilty!

One question, why would you post this on a public forum?

Do you all remember the thread that was bouncing around this week titled "Question of ethics.....first light". Yet another prime example why NOT to shoot in low light. Just another case of lets shoot and hope for the best!

I accidently killed two deer with my bow tonight and I only had a tag for one. [:@]I didn't mean to...They came in right at last light and I couldn't see the second one.I don't feel like it was my fault.

Know your target..........and beyond. There is no such thing as an accident when you knowingly fire a weapon. What if it wasn't a small deer in the background and it was a small child instead??

It bothered me so much that even though I have a couple of tags left I might not kill anymore deer this year, I don't know...
I hope this means that you tagged THIS deer and still have a couple tags left..........if not you have crossed the line from making a mistake to making a concious decision to do the wrong thing.

What is the right thing to do?

Don't tell me to turn myself in because that ain't gonna happen! [:'(]

Why ask that question if you already know the answer........I think you are just here in hopes people will soothe your guilt by telling you "It's OK.......no problem......don't worry about it"

Does this mean I should quit bow hunting??? [][&o]
Only if you are not putting tags on the ones you kill.........otherwise you made a mistake that thankfully only resulted in a dead deer and nothing worse.

You have the right to remain silent. I advise you to exercise that right and have this thread deleted.
