RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
[:@]That really sux! Many people luv the chance to steal a nice set of antlers. Never trust anyone with them.
|
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
Good call, go back and ask them for your Antlers!!! |
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
What kind of crap is that. I dont know about you, but I find that to be a little strange.
|
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
Sounds like they stole them or stole them!
|
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
What a drag...I'd never leave a set ANYWHERE after my uncle had a beautiful 8 point rack stolen while getting processed...maybe you could get them to cough up some cash to cover the lost rack? I mean, they do have some monetary value besides just having personal/sentimental value.
|
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
If I was you I would go back a demand them back. I'll bet they have them.
|
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
Nasty jokers..11pt?I gaurantee you they sold them.I would call the police, and report them stolen. When they investigate the "missing" antlers may be magically found.Seriously...If you want them I would call DNR,and the Police.I'm sure you have a pic..right?I would also spread word about them. You may find more people that have had "stolen" antlers from that processor.Someone like that needs to be shut down!I would never go back, and I would ask for a refund for the processing fee.Don't let them run you over bro.
|
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
I hope you didn't pay for the processed meat yet. The least they could do for you if they did indeedjust honestlylosethe rackis to not charge you for the processing. Your story will hang in my mind if and when I ever get a bow wall hanger.
|
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
If and when you get a wall hanger don't let them leave your sight. Take pictures and get your taxidermist to give you a reciept.
|
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
I wouldn't have left that butcher shop without those antlers!!!! I just hope you have photos.[&o]
|
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
That happened to me several years ago while hunting out of state in Iowa. It was only a 6pnt but after driving nearly 1100 miles i was pretty mad. Only the butcher made one mistake, he handed me the boxes of meat before i paid them. I asked him where the rack was. Even though i specifically asked them to save the rack he told me they had thrown it away. So i took my meat and walked out and stiffed him for the bill.
|
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
That sux. Sorry to hear about your antlers man! might look a little closer into this, many people today will do anything for a good rack.
|
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
Thats a real bummer.[:@] People just don't lose antlers. They took them or know something about their whereabouts. I would go back and demand them back. I am curious of your age. I know some people try to take advantage of younger people. I couldn't tell your age in your avatar:eek:. Good luck on getting your antlers back.
|
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
Yeah, sounds fishy to me also. They know how in demand antlers are and what they mean to whitetail hunters. Go get them.
|
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
Is turning your deer in to the processor with antlers attached common practice there? No one I know would ever leave their antlers on and expect to see them again. Heck, the handling of the carcass prior to butchering could damage the antlers. It should be caped out before dropping it off or sawed off by the processor in your presence. I doubt many processors would even take a deerthat had antlers they had to be responsible for. I can't lay all the blame on thebutcher for this one.
|
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
Look on Ebay.
|
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
I doubt many processors would even take a deerthat had antlers they had to be responsible for. I can't lay all the blame on thebutcher for this one. The butcher I go to people leave their racks on all the time, if you are going to have it mounted they cape it out for you and you pick it up when you pick up your meat, if you are not going to mount it they normally cut it off before you leave. I have seen some real monsters hanging in the cooler. I definitly lay the blame on the butcher, they are in the business of customer service so it is their responsibility to take the best posible care of your product. |
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
A friend of mine killed a giant 12 point last year. I was there checking in a much smaller buck when he was arranging to get it mounted and butchered. They lost all the meat from this 192 lbs buck. He took it better than I would have.
|
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
A butcher tried to pull that on me once. I walked around the back of his shop and found my rack very quickly. I hate to say this but that rack was deliberately stolen from you. They don't lose racks, especially good ones. I would threaten to press charges and then watch that crook "find" it quickly.
|
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
I feel bad for you because you care about the horns. But in general I think it is pretty sad that you can sell a rack on ebay. What the hell is someone going to do with a rack that they didn't even shoot? Makes no freakin sense.
I would be pissed and at the very least he better butcher that deer and two more just like it for free. Tom |
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
My processor has a rule: No Guts, No Skin, No Head, No hoofs.
Thisprevents the problem. |

RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
I do all the cleaning and processing of my own meat so I would never run into this problem, but IF I had to take the meat to get processed I definetily would cut the antlers or head off first. If you wish to mount the deer then cape it out and take only the carcass to the proccessor. That guy STOLE not lost your rack. Bummer[>:]
|
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
When it comes to big bucks, make sure you get the antlers before you leave. Don't trust a stranger to keep you antlers. I've forgot to pick up small racks before... but never had one lost or stolen.
|
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
Even if I had hit a tiny 6 point or fork-horn with my car, I'd WANT the rack. I just like the way whitetail horns (yeah, I know it's antlers) look...sitting on the book case, a shelf, wherever...no two sets are the same, and they all have their own character.
|
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
BTW deer have antlers not horns. Don't know how they can loose a set of horns. We butcher about 250 deer a year and they all get droped off with horns - we either mount em or give em back.....even the dinks.........:) I would question him again......... |
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
I agree, they didn't "just loose" them. Antlers are used for lots of differant things, from chandaliers, to calls, to parts of furniture, etc. To sell them would be very easy.
Hopefully you have a pic. or two or three of them. I would demend them back or threaten to bring in law enforcement, or like what was said about not paying the processing fee, as long as you got your meat, BUT that would depend on how badly you really wanted your antlers back! |
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
Shoot - Shovel - and Shutup
Problem solved. :D They didn't lose your antlers, if it was me I would bring the authorities into it. And would never give them any business again. |
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
Howler covered most of it.They also make jewelry, and knives with them.Hmm..makes me think, could someone make a custom striker with one?
|
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
do some of you make it a point to make a bad day worse or is it normal?
|
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
allseason, what do you mean by that? I would have called the
cops then and there. I mean when, in years past when I did drop my deer off at the butcher I expected the rack to be there when I returned for my meat! |

RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
I still can't understand how anyone would leave any antlers that they were planning on keeping at a processors. Why would you do that? There is no reason for it. I've never heard of a processor losing someones antlers, around here anyway , especially considering it would be illegal to transport the meat home without the tags. It would also be illegal to process the meat without the tags. If I were in your situation I would press legal action imediately. I would bet your antlers would show up real quick. If he doesn't have them , he sure as hell knows who does. |
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
If you took a picture, go to a taxidermist and try to get a price estimate for a replica of them. (it wont be cheap) They'll either have to come up with your rack or pay the bill. If they refuse, take em to small claims court or file a claim on their liability insurance for their failure to exercise proper care custody and control.
If nothing else, they will be more careful in the future either not to steal or in preventing theft from others. That wont replace your rack but it may help other hunters whopatronize this idiot |
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
They are thieves. In Texas, we almost always just gut it and take it to the processor. I have had meat and hides stolen, but never antlers. I have heard of antlers stolen here. To have our antlers removed, we need to have a receipt with the meat before it is completel processed. Without that, it is a poached animal. I once had my meat stolen. I was 16. I went back with my dad and they forked over meat, gave me my money back, and gave me a free processing. I threw the coupon away. The processor I used to use sells the left over antlers at the end of the year for about $30 per set for rattling antlers. They sell the scrap, hides, and hoofs to the fertilizer company. It is in there best interest to keep as much as possible. Your arn't paying them per pound. Another processor lost my dad's first hog he ever shot. They made it up to him by giving him some rancid old pork chops.
Call the Game Warden. |
RE: THEY LOST MY HORNS!!!!!!!
clearly by stating there antlers not horns doesnt help much..
|
