Default Getting started?

Hi everyone. I am 24 and have been hunting my whole life. However I have always hunted pheasant and turkey before gun season(whitetail) and was just wondering whatI need to get started and for approx how much. What kind of bow/arrows would you reccomend?

if your looking the economical route you can get a bow at wal-mart for a reasonable price or shop around. the season is winding down up here in new york so there are a lot of sales on right now. also try ebay. your set with camo clothing. maybe buy some rubber boots. olive drab type are the cheapest. probably around $50. arrows run you between $45-$80 for a dozen. check cabelas or sometimes you can go to a hunting store and buy them in singles or half-dozen boxes. you need a hoist for hanging the deer unless you plan to pay to have it done. you've got a knife. buy a zip saw to cut through the pelvis. cheap little tool and it works good. I'd use your turkey vest to carry your grunt tube, antler bag or full size antlers, doe bleat, scent and anything else you can think of. i hunt with a recurve so my bow is a little bit cheaper than a compound. oh ya make sure to buy a release unless you plan on using fingers or a tab. but i would say you could get started for as little as $350. it may be cheaper, I'm just taking an estimate here.

Thanks Jimmy. Yeah I pretty much have all I need as far as gear except for the Bow(andarrows)and I'd prob pick up a rattle bag. What would be a good bow to start with for someone who as never really shot with one? I don't want top of the line but i don't want cheap either.

Big question. No one hear can answer that conclusively. My best suggestion is to find a buddy who knows about bow hunting, or find a honest bow shop. The right bow for you is the one that feels best to you. Equipment the same.

Price will vary as well, but a good estimate would be around 300 to 800 to get started. If I were you Id look into used bows. Lots of people will get a new bow each year and trade in there 1 year old bow. Most bow shops will have used bows for a pretty good deal. Some times they will have complete setups. Id stay away from ebay, when looking for a bow until you know more about the different bows and set ups. Once you get more knowledge, ebay is a great place to get good deals. Or if you try a bow and like it, you might look on ebay. Make sure to set a price you will not exceed, dont want to get in a bidding war and spend more for a used bow you know little about, than a brand new one. Also be careful buying bows on ebay because you dont get a chance to try them out. Ive bought a few there, and most were great but some have been stinkers.

Good luck.
