Still in Velvet???
I have been chasing a great nine point this year that I got trail cam
pics of during the summer. I finnaly got to see him live and in person
yesterday morning. He was still in velvet!!! His antlers look fully formed
but still covered in velvet. He came no closer than 60 yards so
no shot. I have heard deer like this may be sterile. Anybody else
seen this before??

My taxidermist had one a couple years ago that still had velvet on it.His testicles had been caught on a fence and ripped.Even though they were healed well the wound that is.He was still in velvet and his antler base was bigger around then a soda can.

Post some of the trail cam pics if you would. I would like to see the size of the deer. I think it is a buck with a testicle injury, but without seeing the pictures and comparing its size I dont think anyone could tell for sure.

RE: Still in Velvet???
a guy in my town in central wisconsin, just shot a HUGE buck in full velvet lase week during the gun season. He said it had no nuts, and he also said that it never shed its antlers, i guess he had been watching him all winter long. I am not sure about the never shedding the antler thing, but i thought it was interesting.

You guys are probably right about the injury. I am thinking he sheds the antlers
because he showed sighns of growth during the summer because the
tips of his antlers were rounded then but now there pointed.

I am still not sure if i believe that they dont shed their antlers with a testicle injury. But i suppose it makes for a good story.another thingthis one in WI in velvet has a body about this size of a fawn, he is a lot fatter and deeper but really short.
