Stupid Oklahoma Tagging Rule
#1
Alright this is the deal. In Oklahoma you are allowed 4 deer with a bow 2 bucks and 2 does. You are allowed 2 deer with a rifle for a grand total of 6 deer (3 antlered and 3 antlerless). It is also legal to fill gun tags with your bow. So, I shot a buck a few weeks ago and another last tuesday. The second buck was killed during gun season (and bow season). So, when I checked the deer in, I told the lady I killed it with my bow.
So I begin wondering if I am still legal to take another buck with my bow after gun season. I call the game warden today to ask and he tells me that I cannot shoot another buck unless it is during gun season and that I have to tag it with a gun tag. I asked him, "so if I kill it with my bow, I have to tell the person that checks it in that I killed it with a gun?" he said that was correct. I'm supposed to lie to the check station? Is it me or is this ridiculous?

I wish we'd have doe only seasons for about 3 years...MAN would there be some good hunting around here.
This year it's 3 total deer (in my zone), only one buck. I can remember years ago where it was one, and you had to draw for an antlered deer tag.

If you look at it from the outside in, I would sayyou are fortunate to hunt in a statethat allows youtotag more than one buck.
I know it does little to calm the irritation but it's the best I can offer

yeah, believe me I know how fortunate I am to have these bag limits where I live. I just felt kind of weird being told that I should tell the check station I killed the animal in a different way than I really did.

I'm also from OK, and you're right about tagging it under you gun tag, but you don't have to lie. I shot one buck durring muzzleloader season, told them I got it with my bow and they asked me if I wanted it tagged under my bow tag or my muzzleloader tag. Since I don't muzzleloader hunt, I used that tag, so I can still get two more bucks with my bow. If I understand the regs correctly, you can shoot all 3 buckswith your bow, but one will have to be taken durring one of the other seasons and has to be checked in under that different seasons tag. We are very lucky to have those bag limits and in some areas, we can take an extra doe during the special antlerless hunt dates and it doesn't count against your total bag limit.
