Stupid Oklahoma Tagging Rule
Alright this is the deal. In Oklahoma you are allowed 4 deer with a bow 2 bucks and 2 does. You are allowed 2 deer with a rifle for a grand total of 6 deer (3 antlered and 3 antlerless). It is also legal to fill gun tags with your bow. So, I shot a buck a few weeks ago and another last tuesday. The second buck was killed during gun season (and bow season). So, when I checked the deer in, I told the lady I killed it with my bow.
So I begin wondering if I am still legal to take another buck with my bow after gun season. I call the game warden today to ask and he tells me that I cannot shoot another buck unless it is during gun season and that I have to tag it with a gun tag. I asked him, "so if I kill it with my bow, I have to tell the person that checks it in that I killed it with a gun?" he said that was correct. I'm supposed to lie to the check station? Is it me or is this ridiculous? |

It's you. :D:DLeave it to the polititions to screw it up like that.

Those limits blow me away!

Call the state and tell them.

Just don't tag it.[8D]

RE: Stupid Oklahoma Tagging Rule
I wish we'd have doe only seasons for about 3 years...MAN would there be some good hunting around here. :) This year it's 3 total deer (in my zone), only one buck. I can remember years ago where it was one, and you had to draw for an antlered deer tag.

If you look at it from the outside in, I would sayyou are fortunate to hunt in a statethat allows youtotag more than one buck. I know it does little to calm the irritation but it's the best I can offer :) [/align] |
RE: Stupid Oklahoma Tagging Rule
yeah, believe me I know how fortunate I am to have these bag limits where I live. I just felt kind of weird being told that I should tell the check station I killed the animal in a different way than I really did.

RE: Stupid Oklahoma Tagging Rule
I'm also from OK, and you're right about tagging it under you gun tag, but you don't have to lie. I shot one buck durring muzzleloader season, told them I got it with my bow and they asked me if I wanted it tagged under my bow tag or my muzzleloader tag. Since I don't muzzleloader hunt, I used that tag, so I can still get two more bucks with my bow. If I understand the regs correctly, you can shoot all 3 buckswith your bow, but one will have to be taken durring one of the other seasons and has to be checked in under that different seasons tag. We are very lucky to have those bag limits and in some areas, we can take an extra doe during the special antlerless hunt dates and it doesn't count against your total bag limit.

RE: Stupid Oklahoma Tagging Rule
Seems like each state has confusing rules and regulations. If you hunt more than one state I don't know how you can keep them all straight.

RE: Stupid Oklahoma Tagging Rule
Ohio's simple. 3 deer total, one buck. Doesn't matter WHAT you kill them with. Landowner's can harvest more, I think 7 total?

RE: Stupid Oklahoma Tagging Rule
That seems weird. Seems to me you could get in trouble if someone at a check in station looks at the wound and says there's no way this buck was killed with a bow with powder residue on the hair or something along those lines. Here in Iowa they won't even let you carry a firearm while bow hunting. Very confusing if you ask me.

RE: Stupid Oklahoma Tagging Rule
not sure what to tell ya man...i'd do it like spde did it...but as far as bag limits go...y'all do have it pretty good...when i used to hunt in Pa it was 1 deer per year (buck) and if you're lucky you can draw a doe tag and if you're really lucky you'll get a bonus tag (antlerless only) so 3 deer "IF" you're lucky...but not that i live in Alabama...there is no bag limit all season long...if you bow hunt you can hunt from oct. 15 to jan 31 and you can bag a deer a day (buck or doe)...not that i would or have freezer room for it all...it's just releiving not having to worry about messin' up...and we don't have to tag deer here...but good luck to ya dwd...hope you get to fill your tags
