I think this link is important to keep toward the top especially after hearing about the 1st and I repoeat 1st fall of the season.I've requested it be kept at the top of the page. If it helps one person, it's worth it.

I'm heading out today to buy the rope to build the prussic knot climbing system. I have the cost estimated at $31 total. That only covers one stand though so I'll be using my standard system for the ladders that I have set up.

Good for you! Practice the knot often, and if you need any help with it, let me know.

FWIW, although it is not the best rope in the world to use for this, and I wouldn't really recommend it. Cabela's sells a 3/8" camo rope rated at I believe 2400 breaking pounds for $15, it comes in 100ft length, I believe. Check with them and the package for all specs!

Bobco that would have been good info about an hour ago! I ended up going with some different color selections and payed a little more. I payed total with tax $39 but that was at a climbing shop so I paid top dollar. I didn't know Cabelas has this sort of thing.

Anyhow it seems that white and blue rope is pretty popular with the climbing folks. So I went with Brown and Purple to avoid the highly visible colors.

I would respectfully request that the mods make this a "sticky" for a few months.

I hope everyone reads this thread, takes the appropriate steps, and has a safe and wonderful bow season.

stat, You proably got a lot better rope then what I mentioned. I only mentioned it for indivuals who would rather have nothing then to spend a few dollars for better rope. IMO it's better then "nothing".

vc1111,

Watch, someday, someone WILL market this idea but put a slant on it to make it attractive to tree stand hunters instead of rock climbers, advertise the cr*p out of in our our magazines, tv shows, and TV celebs, then everyone will have one.

Sadly until that point, all we can do is what we are doing to try tocommunicate to tree stand hunters that there isthis system out there available to us.

I can't tell you how bad it makes me feelwhen people are falling needlessly. And there will be more to come every year.:(

Until then, all we can do is what we are doing.Trying to get the word out.

I set it up yesterday in a tree in my buddies back yard. Including tying the prussic knot it took me about 5 min to set up. I jumped out of my tree stand about 5 ft off the ground and needless to say it wasn't very pleasant but it worked. At least I know what to look forward to if I fall.

I did learn one thing about the prussic knot is that if the guideline isn't tight and the prussic knot isn't tight then the knot may fail to grab. So keep everything snug.

Good post! I use a climbing stand but I use a prusic knot to harness myself to the tree. Safety first!

This is a great post and I agree that it should be a sticky!

I remember your posts over the last season or two and I also remember "The Mind-less" calling everyone fat cigarette smoking slobs. I remember assking him to post a picture so we can see how fit he is. He has not responded in over a year. Please folks, don't feed the trolls. Just ignore him. There is no sense of arguing with him, trying to change his mind, or dealing with his insults. Just shake it off. He probably does wear a harness and is a fat drunk cigarette and pot smoking slob himself and he is only posting just to get you guys all fired up.

I hev two friends in particular that I am always trying to advocate saftey harnesses with. They both say "Yea I should, I'll get one next week/year." But they don't.
