Last year I dropped my grunt call soooo I whipped out my dressing knife and tied it to my bow rope. I caught the grunt call lanyard on the gut hook on the 3rd try and pulled it up to me!

Back when I first started bow hunting I was about half way up the tree in my climber when I realized I forgot to attach the bow rope to the stand.

I don't know why the hyperlink will not go to site. I have dropped many things in the last 20 years of hunting. One time I dropped my glove ,it was about 15 degrees I was to cold to climb down so I tied my pull rope to my broadhead ,pulled my bow back a couple inches ,shot my glove and pulled it up.I knew then there had to be a better way.

I can honestly say I've never, ever dropped anything out of a treestand. Probably because I've never, ever hunted from a treestand. ;)

Yep, that's why this year I bought some huge treble hooks cut off the points and ground them down. I can use it as a grappling hook if I need to.

Yup, I dropped my release as two nice fat does were coming in. They just looked around and walked off.

Sucks though.

Get this: I went out hunting one even for a couple hours. I get there jump out the truck walk to the tree put up my climber and go up the tree. I get settled down for the last 3 hours and notice I forgot to get my release out of my pack on the other side of the tree so I reach around and open my pack and opps its not there. Then I am thinking where did I leave it. Oh crap its in the car. So I go down the tree and get out of my stand and start walking off then realize I didn't have my keys.So I go back up the tree and get my keys and then go all the way down the tree and walk to the car and them back to the tree and up the tree. I was sweating bullets. No wonder I didn't see a Dag on thing that night.[:@][:@]

I've fished numerous things off the ground using my haul line.

Most recently, I spent 1/2 hour trying to catch a fallen headnet that I wanted to switch with the heavier one I had on. After finally catch it and thinking, smugly, "HA! I got ya!", I tried to remove the headnet I had on only to have my binoculars come off with it falling to the ground.[:@] That required a trip down the tree to retrieve them and now they give a double image of everything I view.[:@]

thank goodness i'm not the only one. forgot my release before also. that was fun.

whoever it was that had to make all those trips up and down, that was funny.

the link includes hunting.net in it before the actual addy used. if you just type the addy in it works.

usually i hate this kind of advertising, but this thing looks pretty cool and like a good idea.

Saturday....I dropped my cough silencer....and left it laying.

YESTERDAY.....true story...I got to the woods next to my house and had my climber with me. I realized halfway there that I didn't have my tether line (I'd let my sone use the climber....and he put it in his pack), so I decided to get in some good cover and only go a VERY short way up the tree. Well....I get up in the tree about 10 feet.....and start to pull up my bow. I'd forgotten to attach the bow to the haul line.

Back down the tree.

I sat there and decided that this wasn't the best scenario....and that I was gonna get busted.....so I got down and went over to my lock on stand already in place (and also with a tether in place). I sat there for 30 minutes.....and nothing seemed "right". First time I've ever felt "weird" in the field, like that. It was 4:15.....and I climbed down and walked out. I can't explain it.....but I needed to leave.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Jeff

Happened to me more times than I care to remember. Worst case ever for me was several years ago, I dropped a glove.

Sure enough, about 30 minutes later, here comes a massive herd of deer down a path about 15 yards in front of me. I watched them come down the hill right to me. First was about 4 or 5 doe. Then I noticed about 4 or 5 more with a couple bucks in the very back. One of them looked nice!

The lead doe comes right to my glove, sniffs it, blows loud as all get out, and they all run like the dickens into never never land. I think there was about 90 minutes of shooting light left. I immediatelygot down and went home and watched TV. It was terrible. [&:]

My bow. Twice. I remember the first onelike it was yesterday. I just didn't drop it, I shot it, and dropped. 10 years ago I was aiming at a doe almost straight undermy tree, she was quartering away. I usually shoot with a wrist sling, but she came in so fast with a spike chasing her, I didn't have time to wiggle my hand into the sling. So I squeezed the trigger, bow goes off, I 10 ring the deer, and next thing I know, the bow is floating out in the air about a foot out of reach for what seemed like a half hour, then it plummeted to the ground 18 feet......... Now here's the kicker: when the arrow hit the doe, she spun away from me and ran about 10 yards, made a sharp 180 degree turn and headed right to my tree, when she got to the tree, the bow landed right in front of her and she ran over it, dropping blood on the riser. I took a pic of the riser. If I can get someone to scan it for me, I'll post it.

Now this year, I was pulling my Xtec up to a hang on stand 30 feet off the ground. While I was hoisting it up, I thought to myslef: "man this bow got light all of a sudden" I peer over my boots, and see the bow free fall 20 feet to the ground. The plastic clip broke on my wal-mart bow hoist rope! I've used parachute chord with metal dog leash clips since I took up this sport, and one friggin' day I skimp, I get hammered. Thank God the bow was OK, it helped takemy buck the next day.

I to dropeed my bow once. I was letting it down and thought I had hooked it to my string but I guess my hands were too cold to tell if I got it hooked and went to let it down and down it went, really fast. About 2 weeks later I noticed a 2 inch crack in the limb. I rarely hunt out of a tree anymore.

RE: Ever dropped anything from your treestand

I've dropped arrows, tie down straps, water bottles, you name it. Once I forgot that I had just laid my release on top of my bow when I set up my climber. When I hoisted the bow, the release stayed on the ground. Now, I hated that release because the velcro strap would stick to anything. My face mask, gloves, arm rests on the tree stand, etc. I figure, maybe I can use this annoying trait to my advantage. I tied my mesh glove to my hoist rope and went fishing. The velcro would stick to the glove, I'd get it about a foot off the ground, then back down it would fall. I had to eventually go down and get the release. Now that one is a backup, its buckles for my primary. Anybody ever leave anything UP the tree and have to go back and get it? I left my bow holder up a couple trips back, but realized before I took the climber off of the tree. I would have been torqued if I had it all packed up then realized...

Exactly why I tell nobody where I hunt...........they would have a few realtree bow hangers to take home. I usually spend a few days in december, tramping around the woods with my climber, retrieving all my hangers.......[&:] "torqued" isn't the word .....

I've dropped gloves, mask, dip bottle, bow and gun before. Note to self, tie bow on string BEFORE taking it off the hook! I dropped the gun on a hunt early in my hunting career when a buck I shot ran underneath me. I didn't think I hit him and shot two from the hip with no part of me behind the stock. The last one jolted the gun out of my hands.

As I sat looking down at my handwarmer muff I forgot to put on after throwing on some sweatshirts and my jacket, I swore I'd take the advice of someone in here once who suggested using a treble hook and fishing line in a film cannister.I'll kick myself for not doing it next time I look down at something I drop!

Like ShadowAce, I made the same kind of rig from a trebble hook, and have used it to retrieve everything from arrows, to the bow I forgot to tie on. I used a slip sinker crimped to the saft of the trebble hook, and used duck decoy line. The decoy line is very strong, and because it's coated it doesn't get tangled up. The whole thing is wrapped up on a wooden bobbin and fits nicely in a pill bottle.
I never have to climb down again, in fact it's kinda fun to drop the hook down and snag something on the ground.
If you carry one of these in your pack, you'll never have to climb down again. (Unless you forget to tie your pack on)!

The wind blew the cap to my pee bottle(my pee,not doe pee) off the seat of my stand.
Of course it waited til I was done and the bottle was half full.
It would've made a pretty funny video of me climbing down, pee bottle in one hand to retrive the lid.

Oh heck yes...so far THIS year I've dropped my bino's, grunt tube, bleat can, a jacket, a hat, 2 gloves, and my rattling horns...I was able to get them all without climbing down with my retrieval line. :) It's almost always when I'm first in my stand, and trying to get everything situated.

i'm always dropping my arrows. they always land broadhead first, so i fish for them with my lifting string. i put a loop in it and go fishing. when it's slow it's like a game. good luck fishing.

I dropped some Bino's out of a tree stand, the funny thing is I never found them. It was four years ago and I still stop at that tree and look for them. I checked everywhere up and down the tree, under branches, walk circles around the tree, etc.... No bino's

I don't think a whisker biscuit (or any elevated rest) would go too well with a longbow. ;)

Man, I've dropped so much crap from my treestand.

Regularly drop Scent Wafers and my bow release and arrows. On one occasion I dropped my bow about 25 feet. Needless to say my bow got pretty messed up. Sucks when you see $400 falling to the ground below you.

Another time I almost dropped myself outta my treestand, luckily, the good Lord was looking out for me. And allowed me to catch myself. Man, that woulda sucked really bad.
