Default Ghost stories?

With Halloween approaching, I thought this would be a fun topic.

I used to be a member of a 50 member camp that owned 20,000 acres around Vicksburg, MS, the sight of one the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. Anyway, time and time again hunters would come back to camp talking about all the weird and spooky things that happened to them. I also had some strange things happen that can only be attributed to the super natural. Do any of you guys have any stories of spooky things happening in the woods?

Some examples from my camp were:
Hearing people singing old church hymns in the middle of the woods. Unexplained sighting of "men" walking through the woods and subsequently disappearing. One that terrified me for years was the "Lady in Black". Several well respected men have claimed to see a lady wearing a black annabellum(sp) dress just walking(floating) through the middle of the woods. That one aloways had me on edge when I was out in the woods at night. Lets here some of your stories.

Wow...that is pretty freaky. So what specific things have you seen? I would freak if I saw something like your examples and especially the "lady in black"!

Sounds like some freaky stuff....!!!!! Hadn't really had anything happen to me like that. But I will tell you I hate walking into one of my buddies stands at any tiem of day. Just from what I've seen is back there and what you can't see that is there. It's not a scared feeling just an uneasy one. It's hard to explain, just like that feeling we all get when a deer walks into view. You have to see it and walk it by yourself to understand it. My buddy gets it too, the weird thing is when we have somebidy esle the feeling isn't ther..

Freaked me out last year when a big cat(panther?) growled at me after it got pitch black.

Geez, thanks Belle for this thread. I can't wait to get up and go out in the woods by my self now. A few years ago I was hunting by myself in these woods for the first time and I heard someone say my name. It was so loud that I actually said "yeah?" out loud thinking it was someone I knew. I looked down from where the voice came from and no one was there.

I didn't think anything more of it, thinking it was my ears playing tricks on me, and continued my hunt for the rest of the day. I mentioned it to my father-in-law about a week later and he said "oh that was probably Billy *******'s kid. I asked him if he lived around there and he said "use to, but he killed himself near your stand with a shotgun about 4 years ago."

I don't hunt that section of woods anymore. Call me whatever you want but that was pretty freaky!

Buckhuntn01, I don't think I would go back there either. I've also heard voices while hunting, not calling my name, but pretty freaky none the less.(childrens laughter, singing, etc). Sometimes I think I see something moving and it turns out to be nothing. Those types of things makes a long walk out at night very un-nerving. Good luck with the spooks and Ghools this Halloween

Remember the year the Blair Witch came out? We watched that the night before opening morning. The next morning my brother and I and our friend all got up and got ready to go. My stand was the furthest so I was wound TIGHT! Just as we get outside Murphy's Law started churning, our friend forgets his clip and goes back to the house as we wait about 10 seconds later we hear the loudest scream from on top of the hill where we are headed. No light at this time but you can imagine the scrambling for our lights and the choice words which came out. Our buddy gets back about 2 minutes later and swears he didn't hear anything. We start our walk. Everything goes fine as my brother cuts off to his stand and then about 10 minutes later my buddy cuts in to his. From here on out it's just me walking out across the final 500 yards or so of CRP with some brushy draws interspersed.
Now I've walked this route many times before and I have kicked deer up and they usually move out aways, possibly snort and then move out, but I have NEVER had a friggin deer jump up in the pitch dark move off about 25 yards and then proceed to shadow me as I walked!!!! That damn thing would not stop following me. Every time I'd stop, it would stop, and worse yet was when it would stop and for good measure wait about 15 seconds before actually slowly walking towards me! GREAT, just friggin GREAT! And here I am with pictures of a snot nosed college kid muttering into a camera, and then those creepy ass kids giggling and playing in the woods.

Finally made it to my stand. I FLEW up the ladder and my gun couldn't get into my hands quick enough. I just sat real still for about 30 minutes until the sun came up. Scared S&^%less? You bet your ass! My brother said he almost turned around and went back after we left him.

Nothing like a stroll through the woods after a good horror flick to get that adrenaline flowing.

Well, first off let me second the Blair Witch story. My brother in law has this bad habit of turning around, light under his chin and doing the "what was that?" line from the movie. Then there was the time we were coming up out of a bottom near Kerr Lake. About half way up the draw, the ground sort of leveled out and there were all these grapevines hanging from trees. It didn't take long for his dumbarse to make some kind of "Blair Witch comment" about that situation. Standing rule now is, whoever says something about Blair witch losses points in the hunting club contest.

I believe that there are spirits out there in the woods. Being of a scientific nature, it sounds odd for me to say that, but I will admit that science, as it is now, still can not explain everything...nor will it ever progress to that point. I've seen plenty of weird stuff, heard stuff, and even smelled stuff in the woods with no rhyme or reason as to how it got there or what it was.
I always rely on the information given to me by my grandad when I was probably no more than 6-7 years old. He said that there are spirits that still walk the earth. Just remember that they can't hurt you...but they can make you hurt yourself or others if you let them scare you that bad.
