Interesting Hunt

Although this weekend was shotgun season here in illinois i figured i would share my hunt with the board anyway.....approx. 2 mins after shooting time and 10 mins after i get into my stand i hear that great noise of crunch crunch crunch coming my way. I get stood up and turned around...nice 6 pt standing 15 yards from my stand..sure shot with a bow but ive got a shotgun in my hand so ive got all the confidence in the world...i shoot once and i MISS!!!! How the hell i missed is beyond me...i think i raised the gun or something stupid but man was i pissed....so i shoot again and bam he drops..doesnt move for like 10 seconds...i sit down to catch my breath and relax and the buck jumps up and runs towards where my old man was sitting. 45 mins later i climb down and take up the trail assuming hes done for sure the way he dropped and didnt move when i hear BAM...i had kicked up that buck and he went lurking slowly 50 yards from my dads stand and he dropped him. How cool is that? A hunt to remember i must say.

I hit him with my second shot but only got 1 lung because of the angle of the shot.......then the old man finished him off....so i get credit for the kill since i put a fatal shot on him and he would have died anyhow. I was told that he could hardly walked when he put the final bullet in him. All lurched and having trouble staying in line with the trail. Legally i would get credit for the kill as well had the deer run onto another property and someone shot him correct? im pretty sure thats how it goes..first to hit deer claims it.

Congrats on the kill!! I had a similar situation this Saturday. It was opening day of rifle season. I thought about not taking the rifle out this year and just bow hunting right through the whole season, but since I've only taken one deer with my rifle, I thought I'd at least give it one more year. After sitting several hours in a ground blind and not seeing anything, I decided to go back to the stand I got busted in last week. I figured since I hadn't seen anything in the blind and it had been almost a weeks since I sat in my stand, I'd give it another try. The past week has been rough, I might post the bad luck in a story later. Anyway, I'm in the stand with the rifle and nothing for the first two hours. All the sudden I hear what sounds like a train plowing through the woods. I barely have time to stand up and look behind me when I see this doe trucking right toward me. It all happened so quick, she was running right toward my stand. I kept wondering how the heck am I going to get her to stop. I've seen in some hunting showshowthey make a noise like a mouth grunt to get deer to stop, so I give it a try. I let out this awful "mmmmmaaaaaaaaahhhhhh" that was loud and probably way too long, but she stopped. That was the first time I've tried stopping a deer like that. So I pull the old rifle up and pull the trigger. Dirt goes flying everywhere and she bolts. I wait about 30 minutes get down and see no hair, no blood, nothing. I missed!!![:@] She was only probably 5 yards from my stand. I know I could have hit her with my bow and couldn't figure out how in the heck I missed with the rifle (guess I need to practice a bit more). I've practiced a ton with my bow and know I can hit the target with it (not just the target, I have good groups too
, but haven't had the gun out or shot it since I killed my doe last year. I decided to check the sights the next day and they were still on, so I guess it was just me. I pushed the shot or something, but she didn't give me a second chance.
