Default Age of does. Does it matter to you?

When you harvest a doe does it matter what age the doe is b4 you will harvest it. Like you will only take does that are 3+ years old then it would be yes

As long as it's not a yearling, it's open game

If I am going for meat, I'd prefer a 1 1/2 or 2 1/2 year old doe. For herding, I'd shoot a mature doe. As long as it is not a yearling, I'm go.

Preferably i shoot lone does that are not yearlings, so it varies on season.

I discriminate against no deer based on age or sex. If it is legal fair and presents a reasonable shot, then I am greatful for the opportunity and do my best to deliver a well placed arrow.

I prefer the same age range as UPHunter89, but I'm not above taking a nice tender yearling .

The county where I live and hunt just had it's doe limit doubled in an effort to thin the antlerless numbers , so I can take up to eight of them plus a buck. Whatever I take past freezer meat will be given to folks less fortunate who need it .

All ages of does should be harvested for herd management.

Deer+less than 30 yards = Meat! To late to ask age when they are dead!
But if I notice that it is a button buck I will Pass only to help next years hunt for more bucks.

I won't shoot fawns or yearlings, otherwise they're fair game.

I try and shoot does that are 2 1/2 or older. Reason being, mature does will run off their fawns in the spring, and studies have shown that a buck's core area will be where he lives his first year of life. So if that mature doe is not there to run him off, he likely will remain there.
