Default Getting him to come on in.

Hey everyone, I'm new to this forum and it looks to me like you can get alot of good info. from it. I have been bowhunting for about 15 years. I've shot alot of decent bucks but about 6 years ago I decided to hunt for a wallhanger.I'm fromIowa so that would be about a 130" on up class. The other night while hunting I saw a huge 10 pt. He was about 130 yds down a river I was hunting along. I grunted at him and thought I had him coming right in.At about 60 yds. He wasn't even interested. Even tried a doe bleat. Any suggestions because he sure would look nice on my wall.

are you sure he heard it? I know that when I hunt along a creek bottom, I have to call louder than normal to get them to hear my call. Also, did you try rattling? During the rut, I alway resort to rattling to get a buck to come in.

Yea, He heard me. I stopped him with the first grunt. Second grunt he turned and headed right for me. Stopped and lost interest. Grunted again and he turned and looked and lost interest again. Same scenerio when I use the bleat.

This will happen alot if they come in and dont see another deer they usually wont come closer. A decoy might be something for you to look into. Or you said when you grunted he lost interest, did you try to keep grunting while he was coming?

If he has come from the same place more than once then try to move you stand and intercept where you don't have to call him in. If not then try using a decoy as well. I would first try moving stand locations if possible though.

In the more pressured areas I hunt it seems the bucks have heard enough grunts and can calls that they dont respond to it anymore. I guess the first couple times they came into it and didnt find another deer they figured out something was up....or got shot. However on some more secluded land I hunt you can call deer in all day long, your buckslackof a response may have something to do with the area your hunting...just a thought. I also echo what the other guys said having something visual may seal the deal in getting him to respond.

Thanks for the ideas, I don't think that I want to move the stand just yet. This was my first sighting of him and he was by himself. I also have alot of doe activity around my stand. I like the idea of a decoy though. I have never used one b-4. I'm off work all week next week so I think that I am going to go invest in a decoy. Thanks again for all of your imput. I really appreciate it.
