Default Veteran's Day 11 Pt

3:15 am - That dang alarm went off again. I really did not want to do this again. Since Sept 15 I'd been doing this too much. But rifle season started on Saturday and I knew I should go. Besides the wife was off work and the kids didn't have school, so I went

6:00 am - Made it to the stand and had laid a scent drag from alfalpha field to the stand about 80 yards into the trees.

6:45 am - Two does under the stand and they won't leave. They keep smelling and licking the drag line I had hung on a tree 5 foot from my stand. Man I have got to pee! They finally move off after about fifteen minutes.

7:00 am - I relax a little and turn toward the field to maybe get some bladder relief. Holy cow. A mature buck is investigating my drag line. I fumble with my grunt call and manage to grunt alittle. The buck makes a funny loop through the trees and I remember getting lost on my way to the stand. The buck regains the trail and is coming straight for me at 50 yards. I draw. He continues to come to a row of trees I know is 30 yards and veers to the right. The arrow is released with no apparant effort by me. The buck jumps, goes 30 yards and crashes.

7:05 am - I try to believe all this really happened. I check my watch and wait about 15 minutes. Find my arrow and it looks good. Go and find the buck piled up. I still am pinching myself.

7:30 am - Thank God and wonder why he has blessed me so. Also think of the many veterans who gave or risked their lives so we can all be free to pursue such a wonderful passion. In a matter of a few minutes all the early mornings, the showers and the attention to so many details we all do seemed worthwhile.

Eleven points with a split left G-2 otherwise a perfect 10 point. My buddy insisted on a "score" and we greened him at 170 1/8. Hope the pictures work.
