Default Last minute PA 10 point

Well Saturday comes and it's the last day and my buddy and I plan to hunt the morning together and see what happens. Well a long story short I had several mature does in the area, and said if one would give me a good shot I would put some venison in the freezer. Well everything is coming together nicely and as I'm getting ready to draw on a good doe, some how the arrow falls off the rest and all the way to the ground it goes. [:@]Well you can imagine everything went out the window for me at that point an thedoe took off. After about twenty minutes of beating myself up I just laughed and said that's hunting and that finished the morning hunt.

That afternoon I decided to give it one more shot and see what might happen. Got into the stand about 2:00 PM and planned on hunting until dark. The afternoon was unusually warm and things really weren't moving and I though well I had a great week even though I didn't get to harvest an animal. Now it's about 4:30 / 4:45 and I'm just about ready to call it a night and put an end to a great week spent in the woods, and I think I hear a buck grunt down in a real thick hollow about 60 yards away. Well, I grab my grunt tube and give it a few good grunts. Nothing happens, well it's my imagination, as I'm putting my grunt tube in my fanny pack I hear what sounds like a freight train coming full bore at me. In a matter of 20 seconds, all I seeing is a large bodied deer with what looked to be a very decent rack on a dead run coming straight at me. What the hell do I do now, he's never going to stop and giveme a shot. [8D]Well, as he went by me I let out a loud mouth grunt and he stopped on a dime, I put the pin on his chest and let it fly. He jumped and went ten yards and stood there looking around. I knew I had a decent shot on him, and he the just started to walk away. Well he went another 15 yards and dropped dead in his tracks. I couldn't believe it, things like this just never happen to me. Turns out he is a 10 point and I couldn't be any happier, I was jumping for joy.
Anyways, I didn't even have my camera with me, so I ended up calling my wife and having her bring my son out to the farm I was hunting and he helped me field dress it and take a few pictures for me. We finally got home about 9:30 /10:00, and were two tired campers. I didn't measure the rack yet, it's at the butcher shop and I should pick up the head and cape tommorow. It's not the biggest deer in the woods, but I'm really proud of it.
Before taking it to the butcher shop, I threw a tape measure acrossthe rack and it's 16 1/2" wide, not toshabby for my neck of the woods. He also weighed in at 160 to 170 pounds.

Enjoy,

Brian
