im sick,cant find an 8pter,unreal story
 

my friend had a sweet 8 come in, shot it @ 4 yrds straight down and threw it bled great first 30 yards and beds down,this is 7 am,,,,, i mean alotta blood not drops , piles,,, then beds, gets up goes 30 yards beds again,gets up 20 yrds beds again behind a tree and not visible and seemed to be dying,,,, all 3 beds had a basketball size blood stain, so he waits 2 hours and gets out and starts the search, the thing got up and took off, he left and called me and another and we went to get it, yeah right! we had blood 500 yards away, you know drops and then it jumped a downed tree and there was a puddle, like a glass full of blood in one spot then 2 more drops in 10 yards then nothing, i mean nothing at all, we spent 5 hours out there and no deer! makes me sick! what would you do??

Shot him straight down and far back through the gut pry. Depending on the temp i would check back in the early morning. If he is really bleeding that bad sounds like he would bleed out. Your buddy should have waited for a better shot!!

Yep, bad shot selection, bad recovery soon to follow.

I agree, this deer will die. I shot a deer like that probably 10 years ago or so when I first started. I will never take it again. She did die, but I watched her from the treestand for 3 hours or so. Not the prettiest thing I've seen.

I hope you find him.

Sounds like you need to get back on him and dog him to get a followup shot if possible.I won't say a thing about the shot selectionbuthe'll learn fromhis own mistakes.

Never take this shot, I know it look's good but if you miss the spine{a very small target} then you only get one lung or gut, liver. Call "deer search" thay may have someone in your area...Gl Where is Latham?

I also took a shot like that when I first started bowhunting, I will never do it again. I waited 1 hour before I got down, got good blood then nothing. I backed out and then came back the next morning. I literally spent 8 straight hours doing circles up and down large hills and ravines. I was toast...I then remembered someone telling me that gutshot deer head toward water....I went and walked the nearby creek for the 99th time that morning, I look to my left and see the buck dead lying under an overgrown tree. Was barely visible except for his antlers....I was happy about the recovery but I learned alot.

ADD Boy, I can tell you that was the happiest recovery of my life up to that point. It was the first deer I had ever shot with a bow, it was a 7 pointer. I was so happy I didn't even know what do.

The deer is dead go back and find it.take your time it will not be 3 hundred yards from your last blood. It is there you just have to find it!
