Your buddy should have done what someone else did in a different thread. Shoot the buck a second time. Especially if he stayed in range as long as your description seems to suggest. Spend time looking for him, he's probably there somewhere.

If a had a dollar for everytime I've read "took a straight down shot can you help me find the deer" in the last five years on different sites I could buy a plane ticket to go elk hunting in Colorado this week with my buddies.

Bled that hard+ laid down several times +started spotting = go find him. Especially if you let him lie overnight. Start doing circles if you have too. I've helped several buddies track deer shot this way. Bet he's within 100 yards of your last blood, that is, if you didn't push him further exiting the woods.

went out this aft. nothing again, i walked everywhere possible! im sick again! to make it worse i found 2 deer carcasses, both had antlers cut off and because of coyote damage, seemed to me they cut out the straps and racks and left the rest, it wasnt my deer though i could tell,neither had the body size,,,,,
