Default String jumping..where do you aim?

I was just wondering, I've been bowhunting for 15 yrs. These deer here in Texas are notorious for jumping the string. I know of course they are really reacting you're bow noise and not really ducking the arrow but my point is this.

To hit these deer, you had better hold on the hair line or a little lower (on the 20 to 25 yard shots) to make good shots. I have heard that this is a characteristic of Texas deer and in other states the deer don't seem to react as violently....What's it like where you hunt?...Thanks and good luck all..Fletch

fletchdp, I have watched many videos filmed in texas, and I must admit, those deer sure seem wired! I do most of my whitetail hunting in the northeast, and midwest, and have never seen deer react like they do in texas. What do you guys do to make them critters so nervous?<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Up here in VA, the deer prob. don't jump the string more than most places. I don't take shots in the field over 30 yds., so jumping the string plays a fairly small part in judging where to aim. Shot placement is the key, and having a quiet bow doesn't hurt either.

Lower 1/3 of the torso. If you ain't seen a duck, then you either don't pay much attention or haven't shot at many.

Lower one third as well. If the deer is REALLY wound up and nervous I have on more than one occasion aimed at the belly line or maybe lower. About 4 years ago the land owner next to my property got a bunch of crop damage permits. They shot 193 on crop damage that summer. They shot everything that moved...day or night(legal) every day for 2 months. By the time the season opened Sept 14th the deer were like Wily Coyote after his 3rd train collision from chasing the roadrunner. You had to aim off what you wanted from 10 or 15 yards. I've never seen such wired deer. The next year they shot 100 and then about 80 last year. The deer have adapte. They don't seem as nervous but very nocturnal.

Those Texan deers walk around wired year around because they're on a fenced area!... They figure out there's no way out so they know it's a matter of time before their time is up! <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

I agree with cyclone! I've never shot at a deer with bow that hasn't reacted to the shot...never! There's nothing wrong with having a quite bow and my bow is quiet and fast but I don't care how quite or fast a bow is the sound will still get there first. I always shoot for the lower 1/3 and have always had success with that shot. If it ducks i get both lungs if for some unknown reason like maybe it's deaf and don't duck then i get heart.

I do all of my hunting in New Jersey and the deer don't &quot;duck&quot; like I see in alot of hunting videos.

The woods I hunt are pretty noisy. The dead branches and acorns are falling constantly. On a calm day you hear the babbling of the stream. I took a shot at a yearling standing between a doe and a fawn a few weeks ago. I missed. Only the yearling moved AFTER the arrow hit the brush behind it. The doe never stopped eating and the arrow went right by her head (about 6 feet away).

I aim for where I hope the arrow will go.
