RE: How much $ have you speant...
I'd hate to guess, but to put it in perspective, I've been "voluntarily "laid off of work since mid september!!! Gotta love unemployment! I've been bowhunting for20 years and don't plan on ever quitting. Next year I think I'll try to wait until late October for a lay off!

RE: How much $ have you speant...
Well let's see,
I have been bowhunting for 20+ years, for this I'm just going to round it down to 20 years Back then you only got one tag per year So tags for the first 10 years 250.00 First bow, a Whitetail II 99.00, took me 5 years to kill my first deer with a bow 2nd Bow, used Golden Eagle 250.00 3rd bow Mathews FX 600.00 4th bow Mathews Switchback 1000.00( see a trend here?) 2nd 10 year of tags @ ave of 75.00 per year 750.00 Sausage made, ave about 200.00 per year 4000.00 Gas aprox 8000.00, probably more Arrows 5 dozen @ 75.00 per dozen375.00 Broadheads 5 dozen @ 40 per dozen 200.00 Practice targets 4 @ ave of 70.00 per target 280.00 Range time just the last 2 years 100.00 Releases 3 at 50.00 per release 150.00 Stands, I have 7 @ ave of 100.00 per stand 700.00 Camo, guessing about 2000.00 Boots, guessing about 1000.00 So not counting the 7 different trucks/SUVs I had primarily just for hunting, some cheap, some not as cheap but never anything real fancy. Total 19,904.00 I know I haven't figured everything but that's actually less than I thought it would be! That's only 995.00 per year I think I need more stuff! 945.00 per year for something I enjoy as much as bowhunting is pretty inexpensive. Back when I was drinking(quit 18 years ago) I would spend 100.00 per weekend |
RE: How much $ have you speant...
WAAAAAAAAAY TOO MUCH!!! this year alone we're around $12,000 but most of it went on a new lease in Georgia. We had to get a camper for camp and I had to get a new Polaris so that was the majority of it. If you add up all the stuff in the last 10yrs alone you'd probably be able to take a nice lil chunk out of the national debt.

RE: How much $ have you speant...
If I had saved all the money I have spent on hunting over the last 44 years I could probably buy a small country like Russia:)

RE: How much $ have you speant...
Like most of the replies already in, I have spent thousands (many) over my 45 years of hunting. You don't HAVE to spend so much. My good friend and longtime hunting companion bought his rifle, shotgun and bow many years ago and still uses the same equipment. He has just as much fun as I do. It really is an issue of how much you have to spend, how gullible you are to hunting equipment ads, and what your priorities are. When I was growing up my dad bought a hunting license and a box of shells every season. That was it! Now that's hunting on the cheap and I bet there are plenty of people who still do it that way.
Good luck. |

RE: How much $ have you speant...
I've thought about this a couple times and had to admit that it's been an average of about $1000 a year for 32 years. And that's just bowhunting. I used to shoot a lot of target and field archery. Then there was 18 years of gun hunting. Gotta be pushing $50,000 over my lifetime---so far.
