My ten year old son came with me on Friday evenings hunt. We arrived in our buddy stand at 3:30, and settled in. My son is very figidity, not to mentionexcited which adds fuel to the fire. I placed the stand on a field edge which the farmer just combined as we arrived. I leaned over to my son and said "just get comfortable and relax, we probably won't see anything for a while because of all the machinery noise."
Boy, was I wrong! 30 min. later I heard loud crashing and it was coming at us. Within seconds out of the thick undergrowth out pops a doe with the unmistakable grunt behind. The doe stops 5 yards from our tree and I look behind to see a heavy horned 10 point. Good shooter. The doe bolts into the field and the buck flys by us without presenting any shot. The chase is on but ends 150 yards out... why? BecauseHE got whatHE wanted if you know what I mean, right in front of my 10 year old son!
A small birds and the bees discussion followed. I never thought I would witness this in a million years. Needless to say, the deer didn't move for about 15 min., slowly walked for a while, then the chase was on again.

Sounds like a great hunt! All kinds of lessons to be learned even if one excludes the birds and the bees discussion, which of course you shouldn't. I do have a feeling however, at ten years old your son knew what was going on.
