RE: Bow Hunting from the Ground - Tactics.

I've been a Tree guy here in PA but this season I decided to hunt the best possible place for a deer and not hunt trees. Last Saturday morning I shot a good 7pt. at 10 yds. from the ground with no blind at all. I just sat up beside a large tree and behind a log that had fallen years ago. I had one buck jump the log on Monday and let me draw on him from less than 4 steps! You just have to be careful with the wind and accept the fact you wont see as much because you can't see as far.

I have hunted exclusivly from the ground this year, and have found it most effective to use natural cover, something the deer see every day anyway

RE: Bow Hunting from the Ground - Tactics.

I killed a doe this past weekend while on the ground with no blind. The biggest advantages I had were, 1, wind in my face, and 2, I was under a pretty thick canopy of oaks while the doe I shot was in full sunlight. Before I took the shot she walked by me about 10' away. I didn't draw until she was quartering away and had her head down feeding. I was sitting between two oaks, she never knew I was there. double lung shot from 5 yds. She is small and she is tasty.
