The Homosexual Buck

An unexpected thing just happend Sunday here in Wisconsin. The rut is in pretty good swing, so that morning Idecided totake out my doe decoy. I was hunting the edge of 'just picked' bean field with standing corn in the middle and I set my decoy along the edge of the field. About 9:00 a.m. I saw a smaller eight point buck walking parallel with field, so I gave him a few estrus bleats. Sure enough he stopped and looked, then he started walking toward me. I have him a few more bleats, and he continued to come in. So he was on his way in, but there was taller brush which prevented me from getting a shot and also prevented him from seeing my decoy. But I knew it was only a matter of time until he spotted my decoy and the rest would be history. So while he was on his way in he stopped again about 30 yards out, and I gave him one more bleat. Expecting him to continue in, he did the opposite, he laid down. So now I'm really confused. If I was a rutting buck, and a doe was talking sexy to me, the last thing I would do is lay down. Anyways, I let him lay there about 20 minutes, then I bleated again. I can see the bucks head look but he just laid there. Finally about another 10 minutes later, I bleated again. This time he stood up and started walking again. Now he is about 5 yards away from seeing my decoy and hopefully presenting me with a shot. The buck continued on his trail, and it was almost like something was in his way because he turned around, backtracked, and walked the other way. I am still dumbfounded about what happended. So I came to to conclusion that the buck is homesexual.

Any similiar stories or ideas?????

I don't think the bigger bucks are rutting hard yet. Might not have been interested. Give him another week or so and I bet he would have come in hot to trot

Yeah, rut is still probably a week off, so give him time. Where in Wi are you?

Just my guess, but I think the deer did not fall for your bleat call, or your decoy. He was spooked, not gay

The buck I shot Sunday night was chasing does....150+ inch deer. The big boys are chasing....but I don't think the does are quite ready yet.

A few years ago, during the rut, I had spent the day in a tree during a downpour that never quit. Finally, about 45 minutes before dark, a much bigger than average 6 point walked out with 2 or 3 does trailing HIM. They were taking turns sniffing his butt and obviously trying to get him to respond. I also has some estrous urine scent bombs out that he walked directly under. HE SHOWED NO INTEREST TO ANY OF THIS AND ACTUALLY TURNED AROUND IRRITATED AND CHARGED THE DOES!!!

I concluded that he was gay.
