Default Hunting over no apparent sign....

Well folks, I have this area in my neck of the woods I just set a stand in this afternoon. I will be hunting it this weekend. Let me see if I can 'spain it to you without a map. To the East is a fairly busy highway that runs due north and south. Running east and west is a draw of woods around 40 yards wide that runs the length of a cut corn field. There is actually a cut corn field to the north and south of this draw. Parts of this "Old Road" are incredibly thick. Anyway, this draw runs about 1/2 mile and makes a 90 degree turn to the south, running along yet another cut corn field. Now, these fields aren't huge, only about 35-40 acres each, but it seems to me that this is a perfect funnel. I have the best access I could hope for. I can slip through a small hay field next to the house, into a small, secluded cow pasture, and pow....pop right into my stand. The perfect wind is predicted for the weekend, so entry will be flawless.

Here's the thing, though. I saw very little deer sign in the Old Road. Not that they aren't there at all, because I know for a fact they use it some. I just would have expected a lot more sign there. Anyway, I am set up in the middle of this thing, where the field necks down so the distance to the woods to the south is closest. (Bad description, I know.....)

But, it is the perfect funnel none the less. Would you guys hunt it, or not? Found a picture....see if it works. I am talking about the small draw on top of the field that looks like a foot. My stand is right where the second blue "X" from the right is.

Are those blue x's where you are hunting?

No, those are tick marks on the map. The one just happens to be close to my stand.

Without being there to see the signs, it is hard to advise. Is that a creek running from the southwest by the toes of the "foot"? Are there any signs in that area? I personally look for high speed trails and signs of activity i.e. scrapes and rubs.

Yes, that is a small creek. It follows the same draw I am in. Yes, there is some sign there, but not really any more than where I am. I did find a few scrapes around the area, though.

Where's it at? Maybe I can come out a prehunt it an afternoon to help you out?

If its that close to your house and it appears to be a perfect funnel, I wouldn't worry about lack of sign. Give it a shot and see what comes of it.

Good luck.

BTW, you hunt Six Flags yet? I talked to my friend who works there and he's heard of some real whoppers seekin refuge back there.

Well, I hunt north of you and 99% of the activity of exiting and entering the wooded area here is right along waterways. In fact there is a creek (dried up right now) that runs through the middle of my area and there is so much traffic on the bed it is crazy. Just a thought.....

Not sure how much of this land you are allowed to hunt but here are the places I would look at puting stands.

Heck, I'll throw in my 2 cents worth. Looks like the fields on the left side of the picture are terraced. Here the deer are working the edge of the terraces like mad! Blue dots.

I'd be sitting right where the red and blue dots are nearly touching, except right at the end of that darker area.
