I want to keep ONE person safe.......
In light of the recent "Harness Saved my Life", and "Fell from a Treestand" posts here, and considering that #1) Treestands are the single most dangerous aspect of our sport, and #2) Probably far too many members here neglect using or buying a hraness for various reasons........if the $$$ of buying a decent harness is an issue as to why someone isn't usingone I want to help that person out.
I have a brand new in the package Summit SOP full body harness, safety rope and prussic hitch, and D ring complete with the directions for it's safe use.........on me , for a needy member or member's young hunter. If you want to "turn over a new leaf" in treestand safety and this is something that youWILL use PM me......please don't take it from someone who really needs it. (We all need a back-up but not this one;)[:@]) I only have one, but who knows.......it might be THE one. |
RE: I want to keep ONE person safe.......
Matt, I know you aren't looking for that (good boy pat on the back) but I have to say that is a pretty stand up thing you are doing, I just hope someone who needs it will step up and take the offer. this is what our sport is about also, hunters helping out other hunters. I am honored to be a part of this group.

Sorry to everyone who will reply........the harness has found a good home.
Make sure you wear it Dustin or I'll hang ya from it.;) Daryl, I lost one friend already to a hunting accident this year, I really don't want to hear about another preventable accident.:( Everyone please be safe out there, it only takes a few extra seconds to make sure you get back home in one piece EVERYTIME. Remember: Tell someone where you will be When to expect you Carry a cell phone if possible (On your body) Wear your harness everytime. |

RE: I want to keep ONE person safe.......
this is a good thing yall are doin,,we had a friend fall from a stand a few years ago and i think he broke his leg. i started hunting from a stand a little bit last year and always wore my safety harness,,then this year we had a recall on the harness that we used that came with the stands,,so i went out and bought a new SOP fastback model and i alsolutly love the thing and will not climb a stand w/o it,,to bad dad at the same way,,He said somehting about getting one but he never did and is still using the ones from last year,,,but the stands are latter stands and they would be pretty hard to fall out of unless u fell forward off the stand,,
one of the best things i can think of to add to the list of things to take with u and tell someone of where u would be is if at all possible hunt with a friend and take two way radios just incase the worst does happen,,, again i respect yall for what u are doin and good luck this fall!!! |
RE: I want to keep ONE person safe.......
You guys are a class act:)
We definately need more hunters like these fine gentlemen. Matt--I think you started something real good here.Definately something to be used in a stand to save more lives.Hopefully some needy people take this offer and use them. Good job guys:) P.S--we should have this thread posted to the top,and anyone who has one available,to be given away free ,should post it. Wish I had one to donate[:o] |
RE: I want to keep ONE person safe.......
Cool

RE: I want to keep ONE person safe.......
Matt, thats really cool buddy. Hopefully this kind of thing really makes people think harder about not wearing a harness in a tree.
Kudos to Matt. |
RE: I want to keep ONE person safe.......
I just got one this year and used it for the first time last week on my first hunt of the year. I got the SOP fastback, and like the vest, it is easy to put on once you know how.
The great thing is that it is easier to put on than a "safety strap" once you get in the stand, it gives you more maneuverability and won't make hardly any noise becausea rope goes around the tree and not a noisy thick strap. All you do with the $50 or so FastBack is, BEFORE YOU LEAVE TO GO HUNTINGbut after you have yourTshirt and pants on, put the shoulder straps over your shoulders. Then buckle the waist strap by inserting the smaller buckle through the slot in the bigger buckle, then put on each leg strap the same way, smaller buckle through bigger buckle. That's it. It literally probably takes less than 20 seconds to put it on, and another 20 seconds once you are in the tree. |
RE: I want to keep ONE person safe.......
Cool idea Matt:D-
I'll chip in for anyone that needs one. I have 3 harnesses that I will never use. I got 2 of them that came with ladder stands that I bought. The other one I bought many moons ago and have used once. One is a full body harness and the other 2 are 4 point harnesses. I hope I don't catch any flack for this, but I don't use safety harnesses. I hunt either from ladder stands or ground blinds. I really don't see the possiblity of me falling out of one of my ladder stands. If I fall out of my ground blind I think the injuries would be minor[:-]. Anyone that will put them to good use let me know. The full body harness is a nice harness by the way. The other two I still have in the package they came in with the ladder stands. PM me if interested. |
RE: I want to keep ONE person safe.......
You guys are truly amazing people. I also feel honored to be a part of this. I was also given my 4pt harness by a guy who has too many of them.

RE: I want to keep ONE person safe.......
awesome guys!!!!!
Ithought I was getting into a really special sport a year ago. Confirmed!! |
RE: I want to keep ONE person safe.......
I have always known that hunters were good people. But reading some posts in the past with members down right cruel to each other I was starting to wonder. But now ya'll have come forward and made me see that there are truly great people involved in our obsession!!!!! Thanks!

RE: I want to keep ONE person safe.......
I've got the Lone Wolf Harness and maybe a few others laying around. Whoever wants one please ping me and I will send it along.
The only thing missing from theLone Wolfharness is the rope that attaches it to the tree. You can probably get one pretty cheap. At least you can get the harness for free. I'm sure I have more than one laying around at home so please let me know. This is the best thread I think I have seen on here. Hunters helping other hunters to be safe. |

DubsOnD txrookie NY Bowhunter (3 available) Flipout Ok just to consolidate posts, the above 5 members have generously donated their extra harnesses to someone who needs one....do not feel embarrassed or self concious to ask for one if you can benefit from it. Step up and accept the offer.....keep yourself safe so that you can continue to enjoy the outdoors, and we can enjoy your company.;) NY Bowhunter, Thanks for the additional harnesses Ken, but I would hope you hang onto 1 of them......it's kinda hard to swing a golf club with a shattered shoulder (or worse)[:-]Ladder stands can fail too....welds can break, squirrels chew straps etc. Also if anyone does accept one of your donated harnesses, please update this post so that it will reduce the number of PM's you'll get. Thanks again guys for helping.:) |

Update:
KIDD642 DubsOnD txrookie NY Bowhunter (2 available) Flipout As far as I know only 1 of NT Bowhunter's harnesses have been given away........It looks like there are still 6 of them up for grabs. I know the one that KIDD642 has is just like the one I gave up.......a Summit SOP with the rope/prussic hitch fall restraint system. If you are in need of a quality safety harness please contact one of these members via PM. Dustin, Your harness is on the way bud, have a great season.(Make sure you watch theDVD with it to learn how to use it properly):) |
RE: I want to keep ONE person safe.......
The one I have is a full body harness. Last year I bought a Hunter's View climber and there were two harnesses in the box so anyone is welcome to the spare. Don't worry I still have a backup. i bought a boss xl and a stick ladder a couple of weeks ago and have the harness that came with the boss stand. I hadn't been wearing mine until these harness posts started and then thought about my 10mo. old daughter. I won't be going up a tree again without one.
|
RE: I want to keep ONE person safe.......
Great idea guys. I have an extra harness also that i would be glad to give to someone who needs one. I never used them either until a few years back, I shot a buck(slug gun) and he camehaulin right towards my stand only to crash5yards short. If he would have hit my ladder, me with no harness, a loaded shotgun, safety OFF, well who knows what could have happened! Let me know if you need it. Good luck all and be safe.

RE: I want to keep ONE person safe.......

RE: I want to keep ONE person safe.......
txrookie,,
You might be careful with the harness that came with your hunter view stand cause they had a recall on some of there harnesses that they sent out with their stands,,you might be able to go to hunterviews website or maybe or a local walmart,,i know they had a sheet with the recall on it but i dont know if they would still have it up or not,,or even google hunter view safety harness recall just to be sure |
RE: I want to keep ONE person safe.......
I checked and the recall does not apply to these harnesses.

RE: I want to keep ONE person safe.......
With so many new stands coming with full body safety harnesses there should be a fair number being given away. I gave mine away on a different discussion board. Can only use one SOP at a time.
Pass the harness on........ |
RE: I want to keep ONE person safe.......
MATT,
I applaud you Matt, and the rest of you guys that are following his lead. It is really good to know that there are still people out there that care for his fellow man. WAY TO GO!!!!! |
RE: I want to keep ONE person safe.......
Matt-
This is an excellent idea. We ship a bunch of stands out each year... I'm sure that there are harnesses out there that are not being used. I'm not sure what we could do to help, but you've got my email address if you think of something. Thanks for making the rest of us proud to be associated with you as hunters. Hunt safe everybody, Will @ Summit |
RE: I want to keep ONE person safe.......
Matt-
This is a great idea you have. I also have two brand new full body harnesses. These were sent from Hunters View as part of their recall so these are good to go. Rated at 300lbs and still in the plastic with instructions. Just PM me andI will ship them. |
RE: I want to keep ONE person safe.......
I am glad you got it. enjoy and don't mention it. By the way check out the DVD it has some cool hunts on it as well as info on the great summit products.
