So this year I missed three times. Twice on elk and once on a buck. Every shot was missed the same, about two inches over the back of the animal. I shoot targets all year out to 60 yards and shoot very well. The first shot was 33 yards, the second 31 yards, and the last was 40 yards. I've shot animals in years past and made more difficult shots than than the ones i had this year, but for some reason I was sailing my arrows when it came to crunch time. On the last bull i missed i went and got my arrow and recreated the shot. there was a rock right where he was standing and you guessed it, i hit about an inch from it so obviously my bow wasn't bumped and the arrows all flew well. So what do you guys think i'm doing? missing is no fun.

I guess you are not shooting from a treestand? Like others have said before, try shooting w/ your hunting gear on the way you would be in the woods, if not doing so. Check to make sure your bow is shooting the way it was before you went hunting. I had my bow sighted in perfect and shot my target like a week after season and discovered I was not hitting where I was aiming. Good thing I fixed it b/c I killed 2 does the next week. Are you getting excited and using the wrong pins or misjudging the yardages?

this happens to quit a few people, including myself at one point.
what i did to help my confidence and increased my harvest percentage on this situation, was shorten my shot range to a more solid kill zone.

in your case maybe you should look for a range in the 20 to 30 instead of 30 to 40.
there is a theory that 18 to 25 yards is the ideal range to help avoid a drop over arrow shot.
meaning the deer drops to launch away from fear and the arrow flies over the back.
