Check your regs before you carry a weapon on a recovery! Especially on someone else's property.

Well I called the game warden just to be safe. He said that if the land owner says no that he can have a talk with him but if the guy still says no that I would just have to let it go. I hope the deer didn't go onto his property.

Always someone trying to criticize in here. It's easy to see how people wouldn't even want to ask for help when so many aholes lurk in here. I'm willing to bet all bowhunters have missed, and hitting a small limb can happen to anyone.

My understanding is that gutshot deer will not go far before laying down, and since you didn't push it, you should be able to find it. Also, gutshot deer often don't leave hardly any blood trails. Good luck!!!

I agree with Doug. You didn't push it. If no one else entered the woods and jumped her, she's probably within a couple hundred yards, probably no more than 300,of where you shot her.

monkeyman you are notmaking many friends. Don't be so quick to criticize someone you know absolutelynothing about. Anyone can hit a limb that was not seen prior to the shot.

Now don't everybody be getting on monkeyman's back for this comment.

Let's review the morning...

1st shot...over the back.
2nd shot...hit a twig---you're right, eventually that does happen to everybody.
3rd shot...gutshot deer, near an anti-hunter.

I actually agree with monkeyman. Three bad shots may not warrant a trip to the range, but it should at least warrant an inspection of the equipment and a few practice shots from the stand.

Secondly, I'm from NY and now live in CT. Both states are the same, and Mass is very similar. You cannot enter onto private property without permission, period. A wounded game animal cannot be retrieved without landowner permission, period.

So my question is this...why are you hunting so close to an anti-hunter's property? Most landowners in NY are usually pretty generous about giving permission, and the state lands are open to anyone, ie. you can find other hunting grounds away from an anti-hunter...

I realize that sometimes ideal hunting spots are just that, ideal, but I've had to pass on these golden opportunities (next to anti-properties) myself becausethe "what ifs" outweigh the possibilities. Sometimes the antis, although not harassment, can definitely ruin a day afield once they recognize your intention in the woods.

Good luck, and I hope you retrieve your deer. If you unfortunately do not, please take a few practice rounds and inspect your gear, perhaps you bumped your sights, etcetera.

Sometimes I think the members on this board are too nice and encouraging. Sometimesa negative, although objective, critique is necessary toreview the facts...
