Default 3 strikes but I aint goin' out!

I found a textbook deer crossing part way between bedding and food. The trails and prints are everywhere. 3 of the last 4 times I've been there I've seen or heard deer... So why the strikes?

Strike 1 -two weeks ago I decided to check out an area where while squirrel hunting last year I saw deer. Picked out my tree and sat under it just scoping the surrounding area when I hear a very faint noise to my left. I slowly turn my head and see a doe staring dead at me from 20 yards. I knew there was next to zero chance but I drew anyway. Of course as soon as I did, she wheezed at me, stomped, and waved the white flag.

Strike 2 - A week ago I was at that same tree which is in the center of a triangle formation of trails. Well, the deer happened to come from the single downwind trail. Huffs, puffs, runs.

Strike 3 - Today I decided to stay away from the "triangle" and take my chances with guarding just one trail. Well, the wind was swirling ever so lightlyN to NE to NW to even S and SW. This time I didn't even see the deer, rather only heard it bust me. This is actually where I want to make a statement about scent control and that is... It dunt matter what you do, when the wind is swirling, your only option is to cross your fingers and hope for the best! I was freshly bathed, wearing freshly baking soda washed clothing head to toe, and had on Scent Killer deoderant.

Intresting aside: The deer was confused by the swirling wind because I heard it bust me but it couldn't tell where I was exactly. I marked its location in my head when I first heard it. Then it walked back and forth in a big 50 yard circle turning around startled every so often when picking up my scent again.

Any thoughts on anything here? Advice, suggestions?

Just thought of a question relating to this but didn't want to start a new thread...

All three times I saw deer were in the evening at last light. Also, they were all moving from the direction of theconfirmed food source towards the confirmed bedding area. With the moon being full or close to full in the last week or so, does this strike any of you as backwards? Shouldn't they be bedding most of the day and then moving to the food when it gets dark? Or do I just have it backwards?

Are you hunting from the ground or tree?
